Technical Programming key in MES

PB is correct you need the cars code from Fiat (now free). Once you have the MES connected and you find the key programming menu it is straight forward. You have to do all the keys or the spares will no longer work. Enter the cars code code put the no1 key in the ignition and follow instructions in MES. Then do the other keys one after the other. It takes just a few minutes. Lots of warnings of doom if you get it wrong... but I have done both our Bravo and Pandas without trouble.

Using a second hand key is not really an option as there are many different chips and if the key chip does not match car type it will not accept it. I tried to use Bravo keys for our Panda and it wouldn't have it. I have not tried using a key I know comes from the same type and year of car. New keys have coded no trouble at all. I am pretty sure any ebay keys would be either chip less or just plain useless. and wouldn't waste my money on this.

Thanks for that. The eBay key has what it says is the right chip so might be worth a punt. Can you get the key code from Fiat customer services or do you have to go to a dealer? So if I have the original working non remote key you still have to program that too?

Interesting...didn't know this.

Surely it needs a an additional plug in pad that you place the key in to programme it?

Nope that's how car thieve's steal many cars these days
Break lock on door get into car snap ignition lock put key in now broken lock with new imobliser chip use software to pull security key from body computer and program new key in the drive car away good theives can do these in a few minutes

I rang my local dealer and they emailed me more or less straight away free of charge. I was told changes that used to be made were removed around 2018/19.

I’ve got the key now with a 433mhz chip which apparently is correct. I’ve been doing a bit of research on pro equipment and I’m being told that the keys need to be pre-programmed! Does MES get over this?

So reading that link it seems to me that the core coding bit is the code reading/entering. Whereas the electronic gubbins you can buy reads the code MES needs to know it first. The key is obviously blank at the moment. I wonder if I should get it cut first. I’m thinking it only needs to be close to the plastic ring on the ignition rather than actually in the ignition although if you take one out you can’t turn the ignition on with an uncut key of course! Gotta get it cut.
