I have a 2016,12. 8v, 500c Lounge with the LCD cluster.
It has a "Eco Index" gauge on the right side, next to the fuel level.
Sometimes (roughly 6 out of 10 times) it shows a grey bar which turns green when it reaches the top.
So my question is, why would it work only 6 out of 10 times?
What triggers this thing?
(not sure if this is important, but this is a Belgian car without start/stop)

And what does the result mean ?? Fuel consumption (for which there is an extra display ? CO2 emission ? Stress to the engine ?
This thing is a mystery to me, too.

I have a 2018 500S with the LCD screen and the eco index can be shown on the central screen, instead of radio.

It’s a visual display of how well your combined driving has been during that journey. (acceleration, speed, deceleration, gear changes).

If I drive my S with the Sport button off, I get the eco gauge on the central dash, as you’ve described.

I’ve had mine as high as 99/100 but always run out of road to hit the 100.

On a nice long run with steady speed etc your score will be high. The minute you stop and pull away again, it will drop and slowly work it’s way back up.

My display looks different, but the principle is the same [emoji3]

The meter is a sort of economy scale / engine load indicator. A hot engine on very light throttle opening , maintaining a constant speed on a flat road , will register in the green zone. Vice versa stomping the throttle will see it down in the bottom sectors. On a cold engine I think it pretty much sits in the middle for some time, but after maybe 5 miles it starts to operate. It’s not something I look at a lot, more often to see if I am green or near green when driving style and conditions would allow it.

Some later Fiestas have something like this. It is set generously, to make drivers feel good, or perhaps to avoid upsetting owners if it told the truth about the ecoboost. Used to get great readings even with new learners holding the revs too long, so that was nonsense.

It has become a bit of a challenge for me to get it up to the green zone, if it works...
Sometimes it starts climbing after a few minutes, sometimes I can drive for an hour and nothing happens...
So that's why I was curious what triggers it

The ECO index thingy has stopped working altogether.
At the same time, the engine idle speed when cold is much higher than it was before.
Could it be related?

ELM327 and cables are on their way so I don't have any fault codes yet.

Sorry for bringing up an old topic, but this thing keeps intriguing me...

Fuel consumption has gone up a bit as well so that makes me think that something is wrong, some sensor maybe?
MES doesn't show any errors at all. MAF sensor was a bit oily so I cleaned it. Didn't make any difference though.
Is there anything that I can check with MES?

Don't think outside temperature has much influence. Even in the summer with temperatures around 40 C, the ECO thing doesn't do anything.
