What do others use or recommend to lubricate the roof rails for the sliding convertible roof ?

The OEM recommended grease is Berulub FR 43, but an (admittedly very quick) internet search found no UK suppliers of smaller home-use quantities. it is basically a white lithium grease with PTFE.

Aerosol spray cans of white lithium grease are commonly available (WD-40; 3-in-1 etc.) Would these be OK ?

This was discussed fairly recently. See;

and page down a few posts.

Many thanks for the reply about the earlier thread. Before my post I had trawled back for a good few pages, but the thread title did not ring any bells (been looking at too many motorbike forums recently and not paying enough attention to Fiatforum :) )

Now can't decide between lithium spray grease or JR's splendid idea of dry PTFE lubricant.

I think they’re probably all sufficient as a roof rail lubricant.

They'll all be sufficient as a roof rail lubricant, the issue is whether they'll attract dust and/or mess up the roof fabric.

or JR's splendid idea of dry PTFE lubricant.

Interestingly I was using this just yesterday. It comes in a rattle can; the PTFE is suspended in a highly volatile carrier spray, which penetrates well and evaporates within a few seconds to leave an almost invisible thin PTFE coating over the whole surface. It also turns up in the centre section of LIDL every six months or so for around £3 a can.
