Hi
I have a 2019 Fiat 500 and it is going in for it's first service in two day's and they will charge me £170, FFS.

They tell me that the second service will be £350 which I find a rip off, currently it has less that 1400 miles and next year I anticipate it will still only be around 3000 miles as it is my wife's car and does not go very far.

My question is are the prices accurate and has anyone sourced different dealers whilst being able to protect the warranty as I find that £350 for a second service is disgraceful.

Jim

If it helps, BMW and Audi are more than happy for you to buy your own oil and bring it along. Ask Fiat if you can do the same? Then visit carparts4less and purchase the right grading. Literally saves me £100s.

Hi

That £140..
Its an hours labour £45 oil and oil filter plus Vat

Choice is yours.. depends how much you value the warranty.. if you want to keep the car for 10 years

Basic warranty just requires 'servicing' at a VAT registered garage..
labour rates could be half that of a 'shiny showroom' main dealer

But.. if you want to make a £1000 warranty claim after 23 months of ownership..
The FIAT dealer might view a 'loyal customer' differently

Your choice :)

It does need to be with OEM parts but yes you can get a independent garage to do it

Those prices are very close to what I'm paying for the Fabia at a local Skoda specialist. So they seem right.

What would it cost to get a plumber to do an hour's work? And he only has a van, and a few tools. The garage has a workshop, and lots of special tools, so large overheads. Every customer has to contribute to those overheads.

... which I find a rip off, ...

A rather overused, and mostly incorrectly used term.

A rip off is when you don't get what you expect, or pay for.
If they offered to do a service, for £10,000, and then carried out the service, correctly, according to the schedule, using all OE parts and correct oil, that is not a rip off. It is a choice.

If they wipe the filter clean, and just top up the oil, that would be a rip off, even if the charge was £5.

Good points, Bill. My Nespresso machine makes coffee for 10% of the price per cup of Costa, and tastes just as nice, so are Costa ripping people off?

The last "big" service my wife had on her 1.2 500 was £250, including an MoT. That was at a local independent, don't know for sure whether the correct oil or genuine parts were used. It was out of warranty, I would always stump up for a main dealer service for a car under warranty.
