When I start my car, sometimes the check engine light is on sometimes it is off. When it does come on, one of two things happen. My ESC and HILL light come on. Other times I am driving and 10 minutes into driving, all the warning lights come on and then it says fuel system shut off and transmission service needed or power steering service needed.

The battery voltage should be 12.6v.. if your car has been idle for a long time/locked down etc. then the battery may have degraded; just in need of a charge or maybe terminally suplhated.

But this sounds like a classic "hatch wiring" issue. Open the boot and squeeze the rubber boot off the wiring loom. Look for any cracked/split/snapped off wires.

I would say it’s definitely the main earth strap. £4 on eBay.

I would say

You can tell if

Its Definitely the main earth strap

For less than £4 and no P+P... ;)

Get a pair of jump leads...
Keep them handy

When the fault occurs

Put the Red one in the boot (coiled.up)

Open the bonnet

Connect Black jump lead to a Metal part of engine.. the other end to the Black battery Negative Terminal Connections

Has it improved your light display ?

Yes. Wait a week for a new earth cable

No.. look at the boots Hatchback loom as you recover the Red Jumplead

Do let us know what you find (y)

Sorry

The rear hatch door.. to access the trunk

( Uk cars havent had a 'trunk' since the wooden storage boxes rotted through )

This might help make sense of it..
