I recently purchased a 2014 500s for a run around. A few niggles but the main one is the B&M.
Bought a second hand USB/Aux socket on the bay, as the USB terminals were mashed but that made no difference. It charges iPhone for a split second but the Aux socket works as I am running my new Pure Highway 400 through it powered by the lighter socket. Have done a battery reset but no difference. Scrolling through the SCR button on the steering wheel, it cycles the radio through MW/FM/aux then back to radio. No mention of MP3 as suggested in the small booklet that came with the manual.

So could it be either the B&M module, if I change it does it require coding or is it plug and play, or the second hand USB/aux socket is duff or both.

Any help here would be good. Anyone with the ODB kit nearby (Porthmadog)

Thanks for reading.

PS Have set up Bluetooth to phones and that works ok. Would like to get Spotify up and running. It works bluetoothing it through the Highway or through direct cable from phone to aux socket.

Cycling through mine brings up "Blue&Me Media Player" after "CD" but only if my flash drive is plugged in to the USB socket with MP3 music content. If I remove the drive it skips that step. You could try to write some MP3 files to a drive and test that.

I will try and create a USB drive . Will Windows 10s format in FAT32. I suppose just dropping and dragging a few tracks on the formatted drive from iTunes will do it.

Thanks

Mine was formatted on the PC. Don't know Itunes but that'd probably work. My music came off CD's and vinyl!

Also not familiar with the spotify thing but if it involves playing music from your phone into the USB I don't think that can be done on older Blue&Me - certainly not mine.

I tried a formatted USB stick and lo and behold it worked fine, steering wheel button cycled through to Blue & Me media player. Brilliant tried my iPhone , no joy.

At least I know it's not the module and that the new USB outlet I bought is ok.

Thanks for your help on this.

Yesterday I got the dreaded flashing mileage and Blue & Me is inoperable, I tried disconnecting battery overnight but no joy, is it safe to assume the B&M module is knackered?

Yes it is. Not difficult. You can see here how to do it. Also watch the next part for installation of the new one.

You need the yellow adapter for MES as well as the ELM327 lead.

Thanks, Great video, might be beyond my capabilities though. Changing the radio is an interesting alternative which might actually be cheaper then getting the b&m module replaced but presumably you need to get to the module regardless to disconnect it to stop the flashing mileage or can you disable it in MES? Is it worth trying a proxy alignment first to see if that cures it?

have you had MES connected yet? that may tell you something if there is a problem with the b&m module it will show up
as for getting to the module you have to remove the rear seats or at least the rear bench to get behind the rear passenger quarter panel ..its a bit of a pain and time consuming but quite easy just be sure to re clip the panel or you will have a rattle that will drive you nuts!

you would have to disconnect the module before doing a proxi
if your not keen on swapping the head unit why not get a second hand module on ebay?

As baglady says, definately worth a proxy alignment. It will most likely say it’s removed if you do a module checking fail on the proxy but certainly worth a try.

It’s not difficult to remove, just annoyingly lots of bits to take off to get to it.

Ok thanks guys, for starters I’ll download MES and get the leads etc online and take it from there, I presume the free MES version will suffice?

if your going to buy the leads do yourself a favour & pay the 50 euros for the registered version!!
with that... you will not only save time but money too!! from my experience..your guaranteed

later down the road (pun intended) you will need it sooner than later!:D

Can anyone advise definitively as to what leads/adapters etc I need to connect MES to my 500 and where I might source them? Have looked through various threads but it all seems a bit vague. Thanks.

The yelllow one for most ECUs (including blue and me), no adapter for engine, steering and ABS and green one for steering.

Thanks, so this is just a yellow lead adapter? Also do I need an elm237 gizmo? Essentially I’m trying to ascertain what one actually needs other than a laptop and a copy of MES? Is this what I need.......

Yes you need the elm 237 plus the adapters. You don’t need to spend that much though. You should be able to get a decent set for about £40. Nothing else you need except MES and a laptop.

Just realised that includes MES. You only get the yellow adapter though as well as the elm.

Just download the software from the MES website.nits 50 euros, then buy a set of modified cables. You must get modified ones.

Thanks, sorry for all the questions but I see there are Bluetooth & WiFi elm237 interfaces available, would these negate the need for the various coloured adapter leads? Also, anyone using MES on iOS? I see there’s a version available but it says it’s v1.7. It would be handier on my iPad rather then pc. Anyone any experience on iOS?
