Hi guys, after some advice in the fuel pipe connectors at the fuel rail.

I’ve got a problem with a 1.2 Pop. Part of my elimination was to change the fuel rail and injectors. I broke the insert from the fuel hose into the end of the fuel rail.

I bought a used fuel rail it’s a pipe from our friends at Club500Italia. Because the fuel pipe is a rubber outer with a white plastic inner core I have been unable to get it on the end of the plastic insert. As a temporary fix I cut a split in in to force it on and then put a jubilee clip on which is holding. I’m not using the car so it’s fine as a temporary fix however I now have to replace the hose.

Has anyone got any knowledge of how to get these pipes onto the insert. Obviously the one on the car can’t be heated as it’s got petrol in it and that risks a fire. If I get a new pipe will heating it allow it to push on? I’ve also seen that there is a joint down by the clutch servo on the bulk head. If I separate that will I have the same problem?

Would it be better to get a secondhand pipe with inserts already fitted and replace the pipe from fuel pump to fuel rail?

Thanks in anticipation.

Could you dunk the pipe in boiling water to soften it up?

Or use an electric hot air gun?

I did think about the hot air gun but thought better of it with petrol vapour but the boiling water might be an option.

I’ve actually bought two lots of complete pipe assemblies including the two end joints so if worst comes to the worst it’s the entire thing I’ll be replacing.

I owe you a big pint. I did your suggestion with boiling water. I dunked the end for about a minute and with a bit of effort it pushed on. I sort of crimped it with a pair of pliers and belt and braces I put the jubilee clip on too.

Started, driven and is leak free. Thank you for the suggestion. Saved me a lot of grief.
