I’ve replaced a tailgate today and although the boot is closed, when I switch on the ignition the “boot open” message comes on the dash and then goes out. When I lock the car, the indicators flash about 7 times as if a door is open.

Anyone know what tells it the boot is open? It’s not open!

I would think it would be the microswitch in the boot latch mechanism

At what point does the hatch swap change electrics..?

Doors are on a plug..

But is the hatch a matter of 'pulling through the tails'..??

The micro switch does work but I guess I could try swapping back to the original one.

Yes, pull them through on old hatch, pull the cut ones through on the new with string attached, use cable puller lube and pull them back through.

So unlikely to be a badly chafed loom.. or you would've handled it

I’ll try that.

So I swapped over the lock, still did it.

Swapped over the handle mechanism, still did it.

Cut off and re-soldered new new plugs onto both, still did it.

Hands up who knows the most common fault with a Fiat 500s?

Yup, it was the hatch wiring. Most of the wires exposed. One of the wires from the lock was snapped.

All re-soldered and repaired and good as gold.

If only I had looked when I was replacing the tailgate [emoji51]
