Hello everyone,

Can you please help me with the stiff clutch pedal that I'm having with my 2008 Fiat 500?

Given it's a LHD model, it has a cable clutch (not hydraulic) and I've read the entire assembly consists of the clutch kit, fork and cable. I would buy these and have them replaced at a local garage, however I'm not sure what to expect from a cable-type clutch...

Pressing the clutch pedal gives me a lot of resistance and this resistance is not equal on the entire maneuvering space of the pedal. It also hangs a little, which sometimes makes me rev the car a little more than I should with the depressing of the clutch not working too smoothly.
All these makes me think it's a clutch cable fault.

Can you share me some thoughts on this? How can I decide if the clutch kit and fork also needs replacing, besides the cable (assuming it's outworn).

Thanks in advance.

Who many total kilometres has car travelled?

Thank you! This sounds like a great way to start with.

If it proves to be the clutch, should I also consider the fork?
I read in one workshop article (related to Fiat 500) that: "When changing the clutch we recommend that you also replace the clutch fork and bushes as the fork wears."

Car has made 150.000 km so far.
From your description it sounds like the fingers on the clutch pressure plate are worn where the release bearing touches.

But a new cable should be cheap and cheap to have fitted so have a new clutch cable fitted ask garage to check the clutch pedal while fitting the new cable.

It there is no improvement with new cable then a new clutch kit is likely to be the answer.

Ps only buy a good brand of clutch kit such as valeo or luk .
And replace friction plate , pressure plate, release bearing
If there is any doubt at all about release fork change that too

I went to a local garage and had the clutch kit replaced (disc, pressure plate and bearing). I chose LuK for brand name. Clutch cable was fine, same as the fork and bushings which I'm trying to return to the shop.

Thanks everyone again, thought posting the outcome might be useful.
