This !!

There are calculators online that will tell you the relative mass with g acting on it uk the event of an accident.

Having a quick look a 1kg sub could become more than 200kg in the event of a 30mph accident, 200kg of unsecured weight is not only going to move the seat to find its way out, but will also remodel your legs if they are in the way.

So it’s good you’ve got it bolted in ?

I'll never forget the sound of cassette tape boxes flying around inside the car when I crashed my car at 70mph in the mid 80's, my life was saved by wearing a seat belt(not that common then) and by the fact the car was going backwards when it came to a rest, not a single body panel wasn't damaged.

Hi. This is very helpful. I am planning the same. Can I ask where you connected the ground wire?

I disagree. In a serious collision, the wiring won't stop it; it'll just rip straight out and you'll have an unsecured loose object flying around the passenger compartment. It may not happen often, but folks have been seriously injured by tablet devices being flung around in a major impact; a subwoofer is far heavier and more dangerous than that. I'd agree it's unlikely, but if it does happen, you're already having a bad day and being hit hard by something heavier than a housebrick is going to make it a whole lot worse.l

I'd be interested to hear what @306maxi's take is on this - I can't imagine any car manufacturer recommending something the weight of a subwoofer being secured inside the passenger cabin with a couple of strips of velcro.

The Highway Code is quite specific on this point also. Note that items in the Highway Code marked as MUST/MUST NOT are legal requirements. Good luck arguing that attaching a sub with velcro constitutes securing it safely.

My German former paymasters certainly wouldn’t allow that. Lawsuit in the making.

The correct way to fix this is to take the seat out and place a MDF board under the carpet and screw the subwoofer through the carpet into the MDF. Then put it all back together.
