I’m trying to get to the bottom of my stop/start issues!

When it works it’s amazing for the last 2 weeks it’s been MIA[emoji17]

Today I accidentally took my foot off clutch at lights but left it in gear ... stalled but the stop/start appears and re started when I pressed clutch however I had the symbol in the corner that you get when you switch SS off .....

As I only seem to do short journeys since lock down I’ve invested in a SS battery charger and my battery is on charge.....
Remains to be seen if it kicks in again after a maintenance charge!?

Battery was 12.1 so was from what I’ve read in the medium range

I’m aware that low miles aircon & stereo running weakens battery but is that why loss of actual SS? The week before lockdown it was working perfect!

A near to fully charged battery in good condition is one of a considerable number of things required for S/S to function as its designers intended.

Please report back once your newly acquired battery charger has done its work.

Hello lady,

if 12.1 volts was reading from battery charger when you put it on charge then battery was very close to totally flat.

Good work getting charger :)

Jack

Just took the car on the Mway for a little run on a fully charged battery with aircon on but low and stereo on came to lights AND....

WORKING S/S!!!!!
Hope it lasts [emoji23]
Worked perfectly all the way back!! Just out of interest I’ve read if you do short journeys
You can maintain your battery by charging once a month .... any thoughts? Seems like a good idea to me
Plus this charger says it conditions & repairs

Yes definitely do it if you can.
Car batteries become damaged if they are left in a low state of charge :)

It’s amazing what an Italian tune up will do.

My stop/start has only been sporadically working over the past 2 months or so, due to lack of driving and having the air con on.

But, on the plus side I’m getting 2 months plus to the gallon.

I’m sure once you are doing more miles, everything will continue to stop - and start.

I bought a CTEK charger recently for the same reason. My S/S car is doing fewer miles these days, and none at all for several weeks now, so I was concerned the battery might be adversely affected. I've mounted the charger permanently on the garage wall and run an extension lead over to the car where the socket is also mounted permanently to the battery and chassis. Seems to be doing its job and keeping the battery up to spec and the engine fired immediately when I tried it a few days ago.

Great thank you! I didn’t realise my battery was low ... still learning [emoji1320][emoji106]

Do make sure you are connecting charger correctly when charging.

Connect - ve wire to a good clean part of engine , not directly to battery terminal.

See recent post by farrah.

Phew thank you [emoji4] I actually removed my battery for charging but from now on every month I will be charging “in car” so I have noted thanks again!!

Don’t use Stop Start. Just turn off the car yourself if your crazy. Modern cars use little to no fuel when idling, especially diesels. Start Stop also prematurely wears out the starter.

Sorry to 'misquote' a little, but the thought of using the stop/start on the motorway brought a smile.

Stop/start system monitors battery condition and electrical loads. With infrequent use, after a cold start, it will take some time for the system to allow the engine to stop. However, with a stall, it will always attempt to restart the car when the clutch is pressed down.

My 'work' Fabia is being used 1 day a week and the stop/start will ususally remain inoperative for some time into each journey.

If I’m using my car every day .... only for short journeys is that the reason for SS to be intermittent!?
After a full charge it works every single time I stop but two days later it’s intermittent again!?
