Do you rivet in the new ones?

Hell no!! They come with all the fixings (screws & backs) very secure plus I’m planning on putting that thick sound proofing stuff in the rear quarters to help combat any vibrations same in doors too but prob just behind and round speakers

The crap part is drilling out the riveted in factory jobs ... took me ages last time!

I'd like to do this too, even though I still have the original head unit. I do have an active subby under the passenger's seat but I know from experience how crap OEM speakers always are.

I will follow your installation with interest.

You need to use the correct drill bit. If you haven’t got one use a small masonry bit on a hammer drill. Takes a few seconds a rivet with the right bit.

Yes thank you for the tip! Last time I used the dremel ☹️ with a tiny drill bit!! This time I’ll be prepared ?[emoji1320]

No, use the correct size metal drill bit and put a piece of wood behind it or set the drill bit such if it suddenly goes through it wont catch any outer body panel ?
If need be go up in stages don't try one huge drill through thin metal.
This could be a good starting point

Now that! I [emoji176] LOVE!! that’s something else I’m going to do then[emoji23] very nice! Not to mention factory looking!!

The heater control rings came today - beautifully made, perfect fit and a breeze to instal (took me nearly five minutes!:)).

They look better than the photo would suggest. The fan and temp buttons are a little harder to access, especially if you've got large fingers, but none of the buttons is hampered in operation. I reckon they'd look even better on the black fascia.

I got the speedo rings as well but they'll have to wait till I've worked up the nerve to dismantle the speedo housing.

On our 500 with the standard audio system, (at Volume 15 (more than enough to fill the cabin)) the radio starts getting distorted. I don’t know why...[emoji848] If it HAD an EQ it would make up for it, but doesn’t even have one.

Mine is regularly pushed up to 30 without any serious distortion of the sound. It'll go up to 40 I think but that's too loud, even for an old headbanger like me! (y)

I hardly ever use the radio, or even the CD, so I couldn't comment on them. The USB drive holds some fifty-odd of my favourite albums from the last 50 years so there's always something to suit the mood...

The Pioneer subby makes a big difference but even so I appreciate quality sound and I know it'd be even better with good speakers.
