Hi,

Thinking of doing something crazy and buting a new car without ever having driven it!!! I have driven a current Panda 1.2 thousands of miles, and a 0.9 Twinair Panda 4x4 about 10miles!!! There's a choice of 85hp and 105hp re-reg lounge models out there as well as the new 'Hybrid' models. I'm thinking the 105hp might be the better one to get as it is significantly quicker than any new range 500 so might hold it's value quite well??? Any thoughts from owners.

Also - how can I tell if it has the higher output? Any clues internally, or under the bonnet that at a photo could reveal? I might be getting this car delivered to my house with no chance to check in person beforehand - although any advice on lockdown purchase options also gratefully received!!

The 105 is a 6 speed so should be easy to tell. Should be an emissions difference too. Photo of V5 sent by dealer with kw power good clue too (no previous keeper details to blank out). Could remap your Panda to between 95-110bhp. And you've got the four wheel drive to put the power down.

Claimed performance on 500 TA 105, will feel like Formula 1 compared to a 1.2. The 5 speed 85 should do like my Panda won't (rev) as first two gears quite low.

I currently drive a 1.2 Panda also.

When looking for my 500S I found the 105's came with 6 Speed box and a Sport button rather than a city button. When comparing models, ensure the Sport button is on else you'll only experience 97 horses, rather than the full 105.

I found the 85 plenty quick enough (compared to my Panda) and great fun to drive. I did find myself wanting a 6th gear on occasion.

The 105, to me feels more composed on main roads and the additional gear helps considerably.

To be fair I think the 6th gear is normally an extra gear between 3-4 rather then something at the higher end

Agreed, the 6th gear isn’t like an overdrive, though ultimately I preferred the drive of the 105.

I’d suggest test driving both, as I did, and if budget allows, go with the one you prefer.

I love my other halfs 105hp 500. Makes you smile every time you drive it. With sport button pressed, at about 3400rpm it comes alive. 1st gear is very short and easy, if your not used to it, can be over revved. It’s relaxed at 80mph in sixth gear.
Check for evidence of a clutch/ flywheel change around 20k miles. Not all, but seems quite a common Issue, due to the bearing set-up on the105hp model. ( dual mass on this one)
