Which engines are available today in the new Abarths. In the old days it was the standard 500 with 135hp, 140hp for people that does not know how to change gear and 160 in the SS and 595.

Today it looks different. Is 145hp now the base model engine? Is 595 the base model now? Which more option exists?

They are all 1.4 T-Jet engines and come with different Turbos, in different rates of tune for Europe.

The Mulitair engine was only available in the US.

Current range has the Base 595 with 145hp, this has a IHI Turbo.

(the 595 Trofeo that was available until recently has 160hp with IHI Turbo)

The 595 Turismo and Pista both have 165hp with Garret turbo.

The 595 Competizione, new Esseesse and 696 70th Anniversary have 180hp with Garret turbo.

160hp from the IHI was at about it's reliable limit.
The Garret is a little bigger so they can get more out of it, but it does tend to be a bit more laggy.

All the hp figures are quoted in "Sport" mode and I seem to remember only when ran on 99 octane, super leaded fuel.

Thanks for the answer.

Is the 160 hp 595 trofeo the same engine as the old 160hp in the old 595 and esseesse?

Whats the difference between the old 135 and the new 145hk? Mapping only?

What's the difference between the 145 and the 160? Mapping only?

I believe so, both are 160hp with IHI turbos.

Probably, that and perhaps a few tweeks to air intake and what boost it runs. They both run the INI Turbo though not 100% sure that are the same model turbo.

15 hp. Other than that I would say it's probably mapping and some tweeks like above.

All these run the IHI RHF turbo, so I would presume they have adjusted fueling, timing and boost to gain the extra hp.

I seem remember one of the old factory upgrade "Esseesse" kits came with a BMC airfilter and a mapping "flash".

Before I bought mine (now dearly departed) Abarth, I test drove all models available, the 145, 160 Trofeo, an older 160 Turismo (all with IHI), a newer 165 Turismo and a 180 Comp (Garret).

The 145 was quite flat out of Sport and quite buzzy in it.
It was hard to tell the difference with the 160's, perhaps a bit more grunt at around 5000 rpm, but the only real difference was the sound the Trofeo made as that had the Dual Monza exhaust.
They were good, but didn't quite feel like I was expecting.

Both the 165 and 180 felt the power was a little more solid and meaty, there's a little more lag if you try to pick up in taller gears, but the hit when it comes on boost is more pronounced. Get it right and swap the gears at the right moment and it's pretty electric, much more to what I imagined.

The tone of the engines weren't as buzzy in Sport, more gruff and growly.

I bought the 165 Turismo and fitted it with a Dual Monza and to me it was a good trade off. Far comfier than the Comp, nice leather seats, nice silver outer trim rather than the plain black plastic, sounded ace and wasn't that fair behind the 180. I found the Comp a bit drab with some of it's trim.

It's worth pointing out that other changes were made than just the engine outputs and turbos.
Higher output models come with better suspension and bigger and better brakes, so if you think can buy a base and remap it, you better explore the other differences as well.

On another note, they get stolen, a lot!
After mine got stolen I trawled a few Abarth sites and it's very clear they get stolen very very regularly, there was quite an active Facebook page where owners reported theirs missing and it grew pretty quickly, daily.

When I talk to other owners, most say they are on their second or third, usually due to theft and there were three quite close to where I live when I had mine, a Trofeo, a Riva and a 145. None seem to be there anymore.

It seems it's quite easy to hack the ECU and have it up and running in seconds without the key.
