I knew you were gonna day that!!! Ok noted..... no boot till job done !

I think as long as you have covered any bare wire it won’t hurt. There could be wires that are broken or breaking inside their pvc casing but if not exposed then it shouldn’t be a problem.

I really don’t see why any of this would effect the airbag ecu it’s just feed for the electrics to the hatch? If someone knows differently please enlighten me.

I’ve actually re connected the wires and wrapped them independently just in case ..just until my part comes and all is working as it should be ...[emoji120] when the part comes they will all be replaced and crimped! The wires that come out of the tailgate are short and not much room for play .... any tips for me?? As don’t want to pull on em!

Remove the trim on the lid then you can disconnect the plugs such you can pull it through enough to work with?
Note the crimps can cause "quite a bunch" which might give issue, it's better and neater to solder the wires then cover with heat shrink sleeving (you need yo slide it on before soldering and keep the heat away until you want it shrunk)

Never thought of that!! Yeah prob better to solder then thanks for the info .... can’t wait to tackle that ?[emoji23][emoji106]

You may struggle with the two really thick wires to solder them it requires a lot of heat so possibly crimp them, even that can give issue as pulling lots of amps through a crimp "can" cause localised heating?

Mmmm I did buy some tape from Halfords that’s self sealing silicone stuff for this sort of stuff .. maybe crimp those thick wires and seal over with this tape?

Arrrrgh, so I noticed today the rear heated screen is no longer working, I replaced all the wires in the hatch issue except the two screen ones as they were so thick, looks like I'm re visiting this,,,,, MOT time today( ten years old ) so will do later will also have to borrow my dads ancient huge soldering iron to fix it.

I got to start on mine tomorrow.... I tried today and got in a mess! Just need to pick up a soldering iron in the morn! At least I got my usb installed that went perfectly!

Admittedly unrelated but I thought this picture might help you, it's not normally known until someone points it out? Just to save your paint work, maybe easier to tap on picture.

So it's fixed(rear screen, earth wire snapped) not the best fix, typically it started raining whilst working on it couldn't pull the thick wire through so had to run on the outside but at least it's ok for now, had to use the beast of a soldering iron circa 1940's( that's a 10p piece for size comparison)

Hahaha wondered what that was at first [emoji55] (soldering iron) I had a job on getting the rubber hose back into its grooves and staying put! I ended up having to wrap the hose in waterproof self sealing tape as I damaged it! The fix should last for a long time but undoubtedly it will need doing again! Next time I’ll be ready!
