Hey,

Car failed it’s MOT recently as the shock absorber was misting and one of the sway bar links was worn. We had both sides replaced as a precaution and it’s driven fine for about 500/600 miles at this point.

Last night a really loud knocking started from what sounds like the front right corner of the car. We didn’t replace the strut top mounts at the time but after the knocking started I nipped to eurocarparts and picked up two new ones.

After replacing and torquing everything down the knocking persists ..

Any other ideas on what it might be?

Cheers

Wishbones can also be a common cause the rear bush of them usually

Thanks! That looks like er ... a fun job to replace. Definitely do-able. Don't suppose anyone has any tips on definitively diagnosing it?

Something come loose?
Rock the car side to side see if it makes noises, what age is the car?
Is there a particular time it does it like over a speed hump or pot hole?

No noise when rocking side to side that I can gather. Found a really new bit of tarmac near me and there's no real noise driving over that, as soon as you hit a small bump in the road it starts then - consistently.

It could be a top mount, particularly if yours have an early 500 with no covers (which you can buy and which will fit) on the mounts.

But it's just as likely to be a wishbone arm bush, or knuckle .. or even a broken spring (although the car would be more floaty if you broke a spring).

You need to get under the beast (stick it on axle stands, not just a jack) and man-handle the components with a pry-bar or long screwdriver to see what has play in it.
