Hi there, noticed then when I hit the gas in reverse there is an initial groaning moaning sort of sound. Just for a few seconds then it passes. Any ideas what this could be and how I could remedy it? Thank you in advance for your wisdom!

It is the TwinAir. It’s really a quirk and totally normal? If so that’s a nice touch, if not, I’ll want to check it!

Wow! Okay then, not unusual and could be seen as a quirk of TwinAir family. As long as it causes no issues.

Reverse is usually straight-cut with no synchromesh, so it moans. Forward gears are helical and now you know why.. :D

When you exercise a bit, you can let the moaning of a 500TA start before the car starts moving, so before the gears start rotating. Therefore it has nothing to do with straight-cut or helical gears. So no reason for that grin! Ouch!

Besides, some older 500TAs also start moaning when shifting down form third to second gear.

The ambient conditions play a role too. The moaning seems more severe in cold, damp conditions.

Mine now moans also when driving off in in first as well as in reverse

Am used to that with my Panda TA 4x4. Character. typecastboy can tell from vid you like how the TA goes. Do they struggle to put the power down?!

I think they are really great fun but I'm worried that they are fragile engines. They are a little quirky but the acceleration and the unique sound is just amazing. If it wasn't that I had an Abarth recently and am now looking for a facelift one, I would definately have a Twinair.
