My wife bought a Gucci 500c 2012 model a few months ago.

The sound volume of the indicator ticker, reverse warning/parking alert, and beeper when the seat belts are of are at a very low volume. It is not possible to hear at all with engine running. You can hear a very quiet sound only hearable when the engine is off from behind, under the instrument panel.

Does any one know where the speaker thing that makes the sound installed and how it looks? Yes I know that it is a setting for the volume in the car but that one is already on max so it has to be some problem with the speaker thing but where is located?

Ya don't say...?

Problem is I tend to spend most of my time looking where I'm going when the car's in motion - that's why you have a tick-tick in the first place.

All very well at night when you can pick it up in peripheral vision; but I don't drive much at night.

Additionally, in bright sunny weather the light reflecting off the cream steering cowl makes the display almost invisible (and the central LCD actually so) especially with the roof open, so one needs to peer at it for a second or so to try to make out if the indicator is flashing - not to mention where the speedo needle is.

Unless the car has a separate audible indicator facility (slightly unlikely) then the ticking is the indicator relay, rather than something deliberately installed so that you can hear the indicators.

The lights have a relay too.. if you switch them on, or turn on high beam you get a single "tick" too.

On the other hand, the reverse warning, parking brake alert and the seat belt warning come from the instruments and are a deliberate warning device. If you look through the menu you might be able to find the option, select it and then increase the volume... but I'm not 100% familiar with the 500 yet so I can't be more precise.

I'm sure there is no flasher can and it's all electronic, including a synthesized 'tick'. If you switch on an indicator while the seat belt warning's beeping there's no tick sound at all on my car; the seat-belt warning takes precedence. The reversing beeper on the other hand appears to be a separate piezo.

I've found nothing in the menus.

I've noticed that on the cars with the TFT display the tick is much louder than on mine.

I have TFT display and my tick is loud, 19 plate, girlfriend 10 plate normal display and quiet, I turned down sounds in menu not made any difference to Indicators sound, I had a 14 Plate with TFT screen but cant remember it being as loud as my 19 plate

You know what I think you're right I tried just with the ignition on and listened, you're right the indicator sound does seem to come from the "speedo" display.

I was off to the chippy in my wife's car tonight and took the opportunity to test. I can confirm that when the seat-belt alarm comes on the indicator 'tick' stops, even though the lights are still flashing.

I don’t work for Fiat, I work for another car company, but this is 100% from the instrument panel. That’s where it comes from on every single modern car and I suspect pretty much all old cars.

If it was a relay it would wear out in no time.

It will certainly be the case in most, if not all, modern cars, and perhaps in top-end older cars but all my cars before the 500 used flasher cans/relays and in forty years I never had to replace one. The one in my last Mazda didn't fail in twenty-five years.

Seconded, never had to replace a flasher relay/can yet. My 500 has loud indicator tick tock - too loud actually. Don't think there's a way to alter it.
