Hi,

At the front of the engine, behind the turbo, and below the airbox is a clean, shiny bit of metal, around a hole (not tapped), on the top of the cylinder head (I think).

It looks like something should be fastened to it.

Could someone with a Twinair take a look at theirs sometime, or let me know if they recognise it?

Cheers.

I haven't got a clue, but the heat shield is present and intact, and shown on the right of the photo.

I was looking for earth straps when I noticed it, but it won't be that.

And no one's touched that part of the engine.

Are you sure the hole (or a component behind it) is not tapped?

Get a longer bolt (looks like M6) and see whether there is a thread at the bottom of the hole (or a component behind it).

Ralf S.

On my phone you can really expand the image, the holes blank no thread, though there's that straight edge behind it?

The hole's not tapped, and it's open both ends.

Something that's popped in my head, is that a piece of moulded foam sound insulation could have sat there, with a lug in the hole (though I can't remember one, and haven't removed one)

There's a quite a few pieces of moulded sound insulation tucked into crevices around the engine.

This looks like the one you're discussing (with six year's accumulated grime) - at the front of the block on the battery side of the engine. My 2013 Twinair is definitely just as the factory left it.

I'm guessing(!) it's a lifting lug designed for a hook or something for getting the engine in and out.

Excellent, thanks.

It's markedly clean on mine, and it's 8 tears old.

Maybe the surface doesn't hold dirt the same if it's been machined.

Your engine looks cleaner than mine. The gasket there (uni air module?) on mine looks to be, erm, 'sweating' a bit on mine. The gearbox looks to have a light oily coating, too.

Cheers again.

No worries. Yeah, mine is pretty clean, it's just dust and grit - certainly no oil. The car's only clocked 17,400 miles in its six years.

I could have brushed it off to make it all nice and shiny again but only my mechanic and I will ever see it (apart from posting the photo here for the whole world to see of course!:)) ...
