Hello everyone,

Yes, i'm a noob. I will start this thread since i didn't find any relevant solutions or people experiencing the same problem as me.

Here it goes:
Bought a month a go a 2009 1.4 Multijet beauty. All fine and dandy until my wife had the DPF error and rushed the car with sprints rather than constant RPM on a highway.
Now, the error disappeared but the "Change engine oil" error appeared.
It doesn't go away with the standard service procedure "Contact On - 3 acceleration pedal pumps - turn the key down - start engine"
The engine oil error does not appear in a error scan.... and I don't know what to do now.
I have changed the oil and everything should be in parameters but the error does not disappear.

Now the second issue is that when i kick her down with sprints around the city, sometimes, constant black smoke appears out of the exhaust. Literally when i am standing still at a red light, smoke still is spit.
The color is black, not white nor blue.
Also to add, when this happens the acceleration tachometer fluctuates constantly between 800 and 1000 RPM.

To conclude:
What's the solution to these 2 problems?
Are they related?
Did I just bought a junk car?

Many thanks and all the best.

Hi and welcome.

I don't own one of the diesels but I do own a copy of Multiecuscan - which is your best bet if you want to buy (there is also a limited use free version) a diagnostic program to "speak" to your Fiat. What's happened is your car's ECU has recognised that the DPF has a problem which hasn't been cleared and it's flagged up the "change oil" requirement. OK you've changed the oil but now the ECU needs to be told you've done this before it can get back to normal operation. This, as far as I know, can only be done with the dealer specific tool or Multiecuscan (people on here often refer to it as "MES") Pretty much all other "generic" scan tools can't do this. While I had it plugged in I'd also do a "whole system scan" which may pick up something related to your black smoke problem but I suspect this just might be linked to the ECU thinking the DPF needs to regen? and if you reset the ECU with MES/Fiat tool the black smoke may go away. Or a forced regen may be needed?

As to your black smoke problem, I would start off with the reset procedure and then drive it and see what happens. It may just all come right.

Hope this helps. Do keep us updated as to how things pan out won't you
Regards
Jock

Smoky engines will quickly clog the DPF system.

Black smoke shows that not enough air is being put through the engine. Check the air filter, turbo pressure, all air pipes (for leaks) and EGR system. MES will hep because you can record data while the car is driving.

Well, my deep theory would be the same as yours but i didn't want to influence any opinions.

I have it scheduled for Thursday at a service that hopefully will be able to reset the thingy.
I'll be back with results. I still want to avoid the dealership scammers since there are numerous reports of intentionally avoiding easy and cheap fixes and adding up various parts just for increasing parts sales...

Keep you posted
