Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I was hoping someone could help.
I have just got a Fiat 500 Lounge (first registered March 2010) which has the basic radio/cd, blue and me and the port on the dash.

What are my options for upgrading or getting better functions? I have tried to read up on the tom tom stuff via the port but it's all getting rather confusing.
Thanks for reading ...

Replace the head unit with a aftermarket one, it will give you everything you want, Sat Nav just stick it to the screen, better than using Google I've found with my new Tom Tom

Thank you. Any suggestions? I am not able to do this myself so are there places I can take it to get it done.

Yes there are lots of places that can fit a stereo, any mobile auto electrician could fit the unit or go to a "proper car hifi" place
You'll need this adapter plate https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIat-500...6b262d6ea142188400b8d1686502ed&frcectupt=true
As for head unit its personal choice, do you need a CD player? if not a "mechless" unit can be bought.
Do you have steering wheel control ? an adapter maybe required for this too, depending on how its controlled, some use the "can bus" link.
An example of a possible new unit has most things you'd need; http://caraudiosecurity.com/kd-r794bt-cd-mp3-stereo-bluetooth-front-usb-aux-in-tuner
One thing that the car hasn't got that is required for a different head unit is a constant live feed, again anyone fitting it will sort this.

Thank you so much, I'll investigate the options :)

Do what I did, get a fiat phone holder that fits in the socket on the dash and then use the satnav on your phone

Aftermarket head units with good inbuilt satnav are 1. Hundreds of pounds, and 2. All double din so don’t fit the size of the slot in the 500.

Also can be expensive buying map updates and then I a few years time are no longer supported.

You phone has everything on it you need.

Do you have a link to the phone holder?
I'd be especially interested if it includes a power feed as satnav uses a lot of power on a phone.

I’ve never been able to locate one although I did see someone driving with one recently so they must be out there.

In the end I went with a trusted solution : a Brodit phone holder with power supply.

Now trying to find a reasonably priced head unit with Blutooth/DAB and mic which I can hopefully use to replace the standard head unit and still control via the steering wheel controls.

It's a shame the interface on most modern head units aren't terribly friendly. I hate trying to make a simple tweak on them.

I looked at them when someone else mentioned them. Seem very expensive for a phone cradle.

They're a little pricey compared to a cheap chinese clamp-style cradle I'll admit, but the engineering on them is very good - the phone is held very securely (with access to all the buttons), the usb-connector fits perfectly and has a nice long cable, and the whole modular system means that I only need to swap the cradle, or the mount if I change phone or car, not the entire assembly.

There is no power feed on the original fiat phone holder, it’s about £50 and available from fiat or on eBay. The lack of power feed is because it’s not designed for any particular phone so current may differ however there is always the option to use a usb cable
