Hi all, joined the forum today. Does anyone know the OEM part number for front brake pads for a 65 plate Fiat 500 S ? Every auto parts site I visit bring up multiple options with different dimensions even when providing the reg number. It appears that the S model have different pads to the other models.
Many thanks in advance.

I doubt the S uses different brakes. The brakes on 500s tend to be by engine variant...

This has always been an issue with all cars. I remember some years ago, after a couple of bad experiences, I removed the pads from my car then drove to Halfords in my wife's car. I took a new pad out of the box and offered it up to one of the old ones to make sure it fitted.

This was before the days of online purchases of course.

This has always been an issue with all cars.

And likely will always be, since manufacturers will have mulitple suppliers of OEM parts and build cars using what's available on the day.

I've recently changed a set of brake shoes in the Panda. ECP list three different variants, none of which fitted, but their Pagid shoes for the 500 were a perfect match for the OEM parts at about a quarter of the price.

On many 500's, you can fit front pads from the Panda if you don't mind not having the brake warning wires (which in my experience seldom work as intended). ECP sell Pagid pads for the Panda for about £13.50, which are fine for road use.

Engineering best practice is never to rely on matching what is currently fitted, but always to refer back to the manufacturer's specification for the parts. There's no guarantee that what's fitted now is actually the correct part, particularly if you've not owned the car from new. But in the real world of Fiats, not even franchised dealers can always tell you what should be there, and you have to start somewhere.

I'm sure I've used Pagid pads in the past, as you say they are fine. Changing pads is one of the few jobs I do myself these days, and when our 500C's need changing I think I'll still be old fashioned and pick them up in person from a local supplier after a comparison! Having said that, last year my son and I replaced the discs and pads on his wife's Pug 3008 with parts bought on line, and all was perfect.

Probably not relevant to this tread, but a word of warning for anyone looking for brake sets on an infamous auction site.

A lot of sellers list Disc and Pad sets quite slyly.
Like "Brembo Brake Pads and Discs for a Fiat whatever"

What you get is in fact Brembo brake pads and nasty tinfoil discs.

Always make sure you're getting the brand you want for both pads and discs.
