Hi I have a fiat 500 2009 1.2 petrol manual. I had an ecu problem and put in a used one from a donor car, ecu, Body control module and key reader. car runs perfect now but I cant clear the ABS light, I have done the proxy alignment , all great mileage has stopped flashing, but I have this ABS light and a code C1213 system confgiuration , this is in the ABS code not engine management, there are no codes anywhere else.

Anyone know what the problem is please

That is a very good question, when my brother got the ecu back from the ecu guy, and was told it was toast, he bought a ecu set from a friend, the Numbers where not same but he was told it would work, """""It did not"""""""" Then I got involved when he asked me to do a proxy alignment, But it was not having it, and the rev counter was not working and it ran rough, So I put a scope on the crankshaft sensor and it was working fine, but on the scan tool in live data, it was showing no RPM. I asked the question about the ecu, I told him to get one with all the numbers matching, now it runs great rev counter all working just this ABS fault.

Code C1213 system configuration

I seem to think C1213 is a short in the ABS outlet coil circuit.
So one of the coils that allows the ABS pump to release fluid is shorted out.
Perhaps get the pump tested.

C is a chassis code.
1 is manufacturer specific.

Not all scan tools will reliably read manufacturer specific codes and can get a scrambled and turn out odd codes and not all manufacturers use the same specific code for the same fault, so C1213 for a Fiat/Alfa doesn't mean it's the same as a Vauxhall or BMW.

You can find all the generic and specific Fiat/Alfa codes here

That is very interesting, I scanned this on my Snapon Verus, I will scan it today with Multiscan and see what results I get. I will be back.

Thanks

Paul

I have now done a full scan on multiscan.

Same fault abs only C1213-54 System configuration.

I did another proxy alignment. cleared the code

ABS light comes on 15 seconds after i have started the engine, not even getting to drive it .

Yes the numbers are exactly the same , Body control module numbers the same as well.

I have just gone back in to the abs and looked at live data.
These are some of the pids
ABS unit disabled from ECU
ESP Control Disabled from ECU
most other pids are saying deactivated.

It looks to me as if they are not talking to each other.

Do abs modules on a fiat 500 need programming to the ECU?.

Paul

I think it is a part of the body control module, but mine does not recognise it.

So Far, I have now bought ALFAOBD, and I can get in to all modules, The problem I have is the ABS ids not activated in the body control module , It has ASR activated whatever that is. I can communicate with the ABS. I think I just need to change the setting from ASR to ABS in the body control module. but I cant find how to do this, I have been playing with this program for hours, Anyone have any ideas?.

Paul

The donor car had ASR, which your ABS module does not.
As you say, the body computer needs to be told no ASR, just ABS, then probably proxy-align.
MES usually shows a list of adjustables which can be turned on or off, sorry not used ALFA OBD, so no idea if or where such a list might be.
An email to the supplier?

Hi Bill , Thanks for the help, excuse my ignorance but what is ASR And is mec Multiscan. I have multi scan and Alfaobd and all the leads, different colours to get in to the different modules, I can using alfaobd get in to the body control module , I haven’t worked or even found where I it says asr or ABS. i am just hoping it is not going to ask me for a PIN number as the ecu set did not come with one.

I’ve fiddled with these settings turning foglights on and off and there is indeed ASR on and off. ASR is traction control which is slightly different from ABS I believe rather than just being another name. ASR is on newer cars, 2014 on I believe. I’m thinking maybe your new body computer is from a too new car to be fully compatible but if you are able to disable it then in theory that will do the job.

Hi , thanks for that I will have another good look, it will not be until next Wednesday as I am away until then.

Thanks

Paul

MES is MultiECUscan, sorry, MES is quiker to type, and is used on here lots. (Note to self: Musn't assume)

ASR Anti-slip regulation
Controls wheelspin.
This uses the ABS sensors to compare wheel speeds, if one wheel slips, the computer will reduce the engine power, and brake the spinning wheel. So this needs the ABS unit and the body computer to talk to each other. The ABS unit is upset that the body computer is no longer talking to it as expected. (Like a domestic argument perhaps, but flowers and chocolates won't fix this one)

Re: ABS problem solved

Ok I finally found where the problem was, ASR was activated, I changed it to ABS and did a proxy alignment, ABS light is now off thankfully. Thanks for the help. If it was not for these forums it would have been another stealer job that would have cost a fortune . Thanks again.
