Hi

I was reading the post of badboy20cm. I've similar problem but with a complete different motor here is the problem:

I've not a fiat but a lancia ypsilon 2012 that share the same motor as many fiat.

My problem occurs when the car is cold or have not been used for few days and only in these cases

  • The car start but I lake power the speed can't exceed 20-30 Km/h and you feel something wrong. It's like driving a tractor
  • The start/stop system led is lighting and I read on the dashboard that the start/stop system is disconnected.
  • The motor problem light is on not blinking just on.

If I not switch off the car, it stay in this situation nothing help.
If switched off and on after 4-5 minutes all the problems gone no more light the car work as expected.

I've bring the car to 2 garages the official importer too. They said they can't find any problem because there is no log at all in the ECU. I've also check the ECU logs using an OBD plug by myself nothing logged here.

After 1 week at the garage they give up telling me that it'll cost a lot to investigate all the possible cause of the problem.

They've changed (with no result)
  1. the coils
  2. the plugs
  3. try an another ECU (new one just for the test they have not changed mine because it's not this)

I'm not sure it's related to temperature, because when the weather is hot the problem doesn't occurs. But as I say before if I not switch off and on the car stay in this state even when she is getting hot :confused:

Is there someone that can help me or have been confronted to same issue.

Thanks

If still on original battery I would change that first and see how you get on.

I have the same problem.....last few days of cold weather, around zero degrees.

Starts ok but very rough running and no power.

Switch off and restart ok as normal.

Seen a few posts about this but no solution.

Think it is a case of "they all do that sir"

My wife's does the same in this cold spell, especially as it's not getting much use due to her working from home.

Once it's had a little run it's fine.

Is it in a panda.. what year ?

Oil will make a differece

I was using the punto last week
Early morning starts minus 3 to 5 c

Perfect..as it has always been :)

I will be in the panda this week..
It could make an interesting comparison

These are both 2013 85bhp on the correct Selenia

Thanks for replies. Car is a 2013 panda twinair 4x4. (which I really like).

It has the recommended oil.

The problem occurs or not, I mean there is no halfway situation.
It only occurs at low temperatures and I'm trying to remember if it only occured when the "possible icy road" warning came up. The inference here being, does car the do something at low temperature starting.

Having read through a number of posts with pretty exact same symptoms but none reaching a definite fix. And some of the posts tell of extensive workshop time and parts replacements.

And some threads end with I'll try that......and we frustratingly hear no more.

Being in the south east it is a problem I can live with....but it bugs me a little.

My Ford Focus does the same in the cold, our drive has a bit of a slope, reversing out that car sometimes goes into limp mode, turn off and back on and all is clear, It never happen in warmer weather only when it is really cold.

My wife's twin air doesn't do it though.

Good oil is a great start..

The correct servicing is vital.. how old are the spark plugs?

To follow up on my previous post, my wife's 500 T/A has an oil change, check over and MOT at a trusted indipendant garage.
I changed the plugs and air filter late last year. It did have a full service by the supplying garage which was 3 years ago, but it's only done 9k miles in that time.
I think the lesson is regular use if possible. So I'm just going to use it for my commute from time to time ?

Spark plugs are 6 months old.

If I do ever find a fix I will post it here.....apart from 'not using it at temperatures of around zero degrees' of course.

Not going to help YOUR pandas .. but our 85bhp 2013 'road' panda is perfect HOT and Perfect COLD but runs rough if temperature gauge shows 1 block ( and only 1 block)

My suspicion is that its incorrect temperature feedback to the ECU messes up the fuelling

But my MES talks fine to the punto.. and cannot with the panda :bang:

Im anticipating for example:

Air at mirror 2'c
Air in inlet 4'c
Coolant 55'c

A daft figure that will tell a tale..

Any of you investigated in this way?
