Hi All,

I am experiencing hard time starting when the engine is warm. Usuall it start after first attempt (bit low revs at the begin) but if I need to start the engine again even after couple of hours it cranks and eventually starts (3-5 attempts). There is no lights on the dashboard. Had anyone expierinced the same problem and what was the issue.

Thank you in advance!

I had exactly those symptoms some years ago with a Renault, and it was the crankshaft sensor. In that instance, the dealer pinpointed the problem with their diagnostic equipment - it read some stored fault codes.

An update, I have tried to start the engine and it started without the problem.
I have just recently bought this car so not sure ether this will reoccur...
Thank you.

Do you hear it firing and trying to run

Or does it just turn over on the starter

It did fire up eventually but I had to use accerelator.

The crank sensor could be on the way out, if the car is harder to start when the engine is hot compared to when it's cold. You might have a stored code in the ECU that will confirm that the sensor is having problems, if someone can read it for you.

Otherwise, if/when the sensor fails altogether, the engine will cut out and you won't be able to start it until it's cooled down. That's the easy way to know the sensor has failed... but it can be a little bit inconvenient.

But also check the air filter is clean and the spark plugs are in good condition. If the car starts more easily when you give it a bit of accelerator then it could be it just needs a service.

Poor hot starting but OK when cold is a typical symptom of a failing crank sensor. However I suppose a temp sender which has failed so that the ecu thinks the coolant is always cold will be causing rich fueling. So, good cold starts, but when hot like trying to start an old school engine on full choke. Working the throttle might be letting more air past the butterfly so then it starts?

Crank sensor has to be the usual favorite though.

Today was cranking for few seconds and the following message displayed on the dashboard ‘EBD failure’.
Will try to sort it out over the weekend. Thank you for all suggestions.
