Hi,

I've recently bought a second hand 2014 500 Lounge. I noticed that the boot light was not working so I replaced the bulb, but that didn't solve the problem.

The Fiat garage is saying that it needs a new boot lock (quoted cost of repair: £240). I was wondering whether anybody had the same problem and can recommend anything, as I'm not really keen to spend that amount of money (I've just spent £800 to have the clutch repaired!).

By the way, when the car is on and the boot is open there are no warning "boot open" messages on the dashboard.

Many thanks!

Yes, thanks. I don't have any other sign that would lead to think it's the wiring. So if it is indeed the boot lock, any idea of how much a non-Fiat garage would charge for repair?

Thanks

Have you checked the state of the wires inside the rubber boot.
Quite easy to do and then you can eliminate that!
you don't have to get lots of problems for it to be this, you might just get one ( the one you have- boot light problem!)

Fiat ( and I would not reccomend them to fix a non specialist job like a lock swap) have confirmed that it is Deffo the lock then? Cause if they swap the lock (£240) and it don't fix it, you ain't getting your £240 back! They will find another problem to account for it.

As for Non-Fiat price then if you can find a garage to fit a lock you supply ( £25 from eBay EG) then just hourly rate but most garages won't normally fit parts you supply yourself!

I would (and did) get a Haynes manual and get amongst it!

There is no "Boot Open" message displayed when the boot's not shut, at least not on our two 2013 cars. All they show is the little 'car door' light on the lower right of the speedo. An odd omission when you consider it shows "Right (or Left) Front Door Open".

For some reason it never shows "Right (or Left) Back Door Open".:)

You know I'll have to check, now you have me doubting ?
