Hi ! Just got a 2008 plate sport and trying to get used to it ! I have a USB port but it won’t charge my phone... is there a reason for that? Also can’t figure out how to play music through my phone into car, what’s best for this? Please help !
Thank you,
Amy.

Welcome to the forum :)

Even in 2008, Blue&Me was woefully limited in its capabilities, it hardly worked with 1/2 the phones available at the time and has only gotten worse since. If your car isn't equipped with a 3.5mm AUX port, then really your best option is to replace the stereo headunit with a more capable aftermarket unit.

The USB standard is a 5v 0.5A (500mA) supply.
Most phones now need at least 1A, some more than that. So the USB current is barely enough to prevent discharge, let alone add some charge.

You need a USB adaptor for the 12v socket, get one that can output 2.1A.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Your car is over 10 years old. How many types of phone accessory bought in 2008 would work with a current generation phone?

The usb port on your car was designed to play music (as .mp3 files) from a FAT32-formatted memory stick - nothing more. It does this perfectly well, so one option is to transcode your music onto a memory stick and play it from there. Memory sticks are cheap as chips (if you'll pardon the pun), and there are plenty of freeware programs that will do the job.

Back in the day, Fiat sold an adapter (not cheap, but secondhand ones should be available for less money now) specifically to allow music stored on an iPhone to play via the usb port. However, you still need to use the phone to select the music (illegal now to do this whilst driving in the UK), and I'm not sure it will work with the latest phones.

IMG_0136.JPGone of these on eBay will do the job for a couple of quid and glow with a blue ring.
