2012 fiat 500 1.2 pop
When driving the lights come on had it pluged in only code p0504 was for a brake pedal switch. Reset codes and after driving 10 ish miles the lights back on. If you turn off and on again the lights go off for a while then comes back on. Ive changed the battery. Anyone had same problems? Thanks justin

The switch has a plunger which sometimes gets stuck in. If you look under the passenger footwell you will see it. There’s an electrical connection. If you disconnect that, take out the switch and get a pair of pliers. Pull the plunger end firmly and it will reset it. If it still does it you need a new one.

Would that bring the light on for stop start?

No, it wouldn’t. The stop start in these cars is rubbish and intermittent at the best of times. I hate it and always switch it off. It’s most likely a sensor.

If there is anyone near you that has MES I’m sure they can diagnose it rather than a generic P code. Where are you?

Hi im up in lancaster.
Not sure what MES reader is.
Got the code using a snapon reader

MES is MultiECUScan. It’s a very cheap highly powered near dealer level diagnostic software for Italian cars. Lots of us have it and we help out others nearby. I’ve had four people come to me from the forum.

If you’ve got a windows laptop you can download the trial at www.multiecuscan.net

Those P codes don’t really tell you much. MES is likely to tell you exactly what the problem is.

I’m sure if anyone is nearby to Lancaster they’ll help.

Sadly not, MES is unbeatable. Fiat dealers charge an arm and a leg for anything to do with diagnostics. Buying MES which is only 50 euros and a set of cables will pay for itself in the first visit to fiat. As a fiat owner it is invaluable.

Pumping the brake pedal is one of the restart criteria for stop start so I’d think it would monitor it. Monitoring brake pressure seems over the top so it’s got to be worth going for a brake switch. It won’t brake the bank!

Well changed the switch yesterday lol what a job. Found the switch half turn pulled it out.and yes was faulty clicking and sticking. Could i get the new one in. Im 10 weeks into recovery after a shoulder surgery still very weak.about 1 hour later it was in. should have taken 2 mins. Anyway wife said the lights back on

Clearly not the switch then. I’ve had stop start unavailable message before when I’ve had the airbag ecu unplugged so it’s possible you have a faulty ecu. You really need MES or someone near you who has it to diagnose the problem otherwise it’s an expensive trip to a main dealer.

Have you had the mileage flashing at any point?

No flashing mileage.
Main dealer 20+ miles away used to have one in morecambe 5mins away but they changed to kia.
Just out of interest what do they charge to plug in?
How much is a ecu?

Diagnostics at (technically) my nearest dealer £50. Not a sure thing will bring anything up. It's dealer spec Fiat Examiner they have. Motorparks (Riversway, Preston (down from the cinema) maybe your nearest). See what they charge.

To scared to call lol dont want to know how much it is. Think it might be getting traded in for a jazz

Well that was my shortest time on a forum lol. Today traded the fiat 500 for a 66plate honda civic. Pick up fri

Lights not been on when driving now. Must know its going lol done about 50miles and still not light
