Please help! I have a 2014 Fiat 500 Lounge, and it's start stop function has stopped working. My housemate yesterday disconnected the battery and now the start stop has stopped working. Plus, i am a student who can't afford a diagnostic check and repair at a garage. Please help!!!

It will take a while for the intelligent battery sensor to relearn the battery after disconnection, presuming that is the battery is up to scratch in the first place. Fiats stop start system is fairly crap and if the battery isent 100% it will be flakey

Even if it doesn't start working, I wouldn't pay for a diagnostic check, just keep driving it. I managed without such a system for about 40 years before they started fitting them!

Hi.and welcome. :)

So. Why was it disconnected?

Either let the car have time to relearn.. and potentially start working again.

Or just remove the earth(negative) lead off the bsttery AGAIN for a few hours.. and try again.

Apart from the vehicles ability to restart quickly after a stall.. you are not missing a great deal.. ;)

FOR ANYONE ELSE WITH THIS TROUBLE...

I'm a motor trader & have got a Fiat 500 Twin Air and recently had the same trouble. All was ok till I took the car for an MOT last week. While there the mechanic noticed the break lights were permanently on. So he messed around with the 'Brake Light Switch' which is in the right hand side of passenger side foot well just under the dash trim. After several attempts he got the lights to function properly. Car passed MOT & I drove home.

Next morning started the car & yellow warning triangle appeared & stop/start symbol. After several trips to my other mechanic & having the two lights switched off he said he noticed the brake lights wernt working. So I went to a scrap yard, got a second hand break light switch for £5, fitted it & the two lights haven't come back on!

I also vote for "be happy to get rid of this nuisance". Will improve the lifetime of the engine.
On my late MINI the SS stopped working after 5 years with the battery aging, but it happily lived on for another 2 years until the car was sold.
Risk is that on the Fiat, other faults may appear, like the Power steering acting up.
Earth strap and/or new battery should be the first point to check.
And when the SS comes back, always remember to switch it off.....
