Hello, having problems solving issue, relates to 2007 Fiat 500 1.2 Petrol, not start/stop.
In morning, car starts but sometimes battery light stays on, and if it does, the power steering does not work. Switch engine off and back on again and all is ok, fed up with this now.
New Exide battery fitted recently, standing voltage 12.6/12.7 Volts, when engine running this is 14.5 Volts, even when battery light is on, the charge at battery posts is still 14.5 Volts.
Really appreciate if anyone has solved this, and how to fix it.
I can see there are some similar posts, but I cannot find a solution.
Kind regards
Dave

Check the earthing points ? and the engine earth strap known to degrade but look ok. Check the alternator output with headlights full on main beam heated rear screen fan on full ? Sounds like a voltage sensing issue rather than actual output but also with checking the alternator connections.

Hi Dave.

Generally speaking..

If the battery light is staying on.. then your alternator has minimal output.

Probably the inbuilt regulator.. we had a punto did this.
Probably identical parts.

Of course with no alternator power you have ZERO chance of PAS.

Our regulator would cut in with raised engine revs.. then work fine for days..

But yours does sound different.
Certainly worth doing the earth strap.

Hello, apologies, forgot to close this down, as issue was ignition light came on and stayed on until you switched off and re started. The issue was due to the alternator, I had replaced the regulator but worked for a short time, replaced the alternator which I got off a quite new car breaking on eBay, fitted and no issue at all after that. Thank you for your help.
