Need a new clutch and my garage has recommended a borgandbeck as a reasonable buy over Luk which is miles more expensive. Borgandbeck are an old firm but have been bought out in recent years . Are they any good ?

No clutch for a 500 should be massively expensive? I went for an OE one which is an FPT cover plate and AP clutch plate.

Borg & Beck is pretty good. They were fitted as original equipment to various Fiat models and still might be, since manufacturers like to have a few different component suppliers for the same item.

B&B was bought out by Firstline a couple of years ago but Firstline also know what they're doing. I dunno where the clutches are made but Firstline are in Oxfordshire. Their own brand products are good, so I don't know why their clutches shouldn't be too.

The only feedback I ever saw about B&B clutches were that they were accused of being more "grabby" than Luk or Valeo.. but I've had Luk on a Cinquecento, to replace a B&B and it was only marginally better (possibly due to being new rather than clapped out) so I wouldn't spend a fortune more on Luk, if B&B was the other option.

Only a Valeo clutch is worth spending extra on... but as above, only if it's less than a tenner more.. otherwise nothing wrong with getting assimilated (the Borg).. :D
