So, I had the front wipers on intermittent and the back one off. It was raining slightly at the time. I noticed that, without being switched on , the rear wiper made about 5 passes and then stopped. Has anyone else noticed this ?

Usually does this after a rear wash wipe. Then a final single wipe after a delay.

Did you touch the rear wash wipe?

Sometimes fumbling in the dark especially you want to change the wiper speed or turn it from intermittent to "on" etc, instead of getting the right part of the stalk, your hand (or mine at least) occasionally taps the stalk away from me (activating the rear wash wipe, as mentioned above).

I would try to clean the whole assembly especially the inside. contact blades .
In sometime case , the dirty, whater infiltration do much problems.

Good point - if the self-parking switch in the motor is faulty, that would explain the uncommanded running (with no tailgate wiring fault). The wiper is trying to park itself but the contacts aren’t closing when the wiper reaches the park position.

Meanwhile I just had to convert 20cm into inches.

Not sure he had actually set the wiper in motion...?

My only experience of similar was a mk2 punto. If you activated tailgate wiper it ran and ran.. turning off igntion was only way of stopping it.

COULD have been the motor.. but car had other electrical niggles.
MIL after 1 hour of engine running being another..also reset by ignition (for another 60 mins..)

The car had terminal rust.. so the 10% of market value purchase price was justified.. ;)
