Hi all, I have an oil leak. It's not gushing but it's a fairly constant drip. An hour parked up and the drip left on the ground is about an inch in diameter. I want to try and do some investigation before it inevitably goes to the mechanic where a hefty bill will probably follow.

Are there any known weak spots for leaking when it comes to a mjet? It's a 2008.

After jacking up the car I can see that the sump is covered, altho I don't think it's the sump that's actually leaking, more a case of oil being blown onto and around the sump while driving.

Looking from above its hard to tell. There's always been some overspill around the filler cap.

My concern would be the last picture altho theres always been a tad of oil there too.

I've owned the car for 4 years. It's done 85k miles. The drip has only manifested in the past two weeks.

Anyone have any ideas?

Replacing the sump as a first measure.

Buy a can of spray brake cleaner and give everything a good clean up then drive around for a day or two and recheck
