Fiat 500 Drop Links

Hello,

A couple of months back I changed my drop links on my 500 1.2 because they were knocking, but because they were rusted I had to cut them and, in my infinite stupidity, forgot to measure them. Ordered a new pair and they were 5cm longer. After a lot of searching found a pair that fit from a ford Mondeo (plastic ones) but a week ago, they popped from the ball joint. I searched all over the internet and shops but there original code give me the same length.

How is this possible and where can I find a pair that fits my car?

Original part code for links are 300+mm but the ones I need are 285mm (measured between centers)

Regards

Re: Fiat 500 Drop Links

Hi, surely if they’re 500 ones fitting both wouldn’t cause an issue, the roll bar will pivot to accommodate.
You would need to disconnect both before fitting a new one but after that it’ll just rotate the roll bar by the new length.
Just check they don’t foul anything, probably just had the wrong ones fitted originally.
Hope that makes sense!

Have you had the car from new?
If not it's possible someone before you fitted the wrong size links

The fact the "wrong " part broke after such a short time strongly suggests that the OEM ones are the correct ones?
Also the top mounts are prone to fail very early, need to do mine.

I currently get about 15000 miles on my TwinAir, before the drop links are knackered and the front end begins to knock. On to the third set now, the Fiat original ones were the worst.. I like my car quiet.
The Birth ones are very good quality, they are good for 18 months / 18000 miles lol ... I had one QH droplink fail at 5000 miles etc

Did the top mounts at 20000 miles only, used Fiat ones, popped the bearings open and added a load of extra grease and sorted out decent covers so no water in the bearings again etc.
