Hi guys - I'm new here so hoping I've written this is in the correct place!

Just purchased a 500C (2013) and on the way home from the garage a yellow triangle warning light came on. Can't find anything to suggest what it is. If I turn the car off and on again it sometimes disappears. Just seems to come on on some journeys and not others?

Also - just went out in it and as I was driving along an alarm sounded and the dash said something about Hill Stop not activated?

Sorry if I'm sounding dumb here but I'm unsure whether I need to be taking this car back or if it's something simple!

The orange triangle is a generic warning that can mean a number of different things, the light will come on and it should tell you in writing on the dash what the problem is. You might need to turn the car off and set off again if you missed what it said at start up.

Orange lights are a warning red lights mean don’t continue driving so if I were you I’d pop back to the dealer for them to take a look especially as you only just bought it.

If you’ve just bought it, it could have been sitting on a forecourt for weeks and the battery probably just needs a good charge or possibly renewing. Lots of things run of electric in these and a discharged or poor battery can throw up all sort of errors. Find someone with a battery charger and charge it up overnight. If it still does it, take it back to the dealer and say it needs a new battery.

Usually the yellow triangle appears for us when a daytime running light bulb has blown.

Next time the yellow triangle comes on, have a walk around the car and check every light; remember that the daytime running lights are also sidelights (twin filament bulb) when the headlights are switched on, so check those too.

For some reason, number plate light bulbs are often the most intermittent - it’s possible that after a few bumps in the road, the bulb is working again and the yellow triangle goes away.

Hello Sarah,

We had this very thing on our 2009 1.4 500C, the intermittent yellow triangle and exactly the same message..."HILL HOLDER NOT AVAILABLE"

It turned out to be an ABS wheel sensor. These sensors are responsible for anti-lock braking, traction control, hill holding et al.

Get the fault code read to ascertain which sensor has failed.

Good luck,

Kev :)
