While changing the front panel on my latest 2009 Lounge I came across this plug and cable tucked under the front nearside headlight. In all 29 cars I have done, I have never seen this cable and I can't think what on earth it is for.

Any ideas anyone?

ePer has pictures of all of the various connectors and none of them look like this (based on the drawings). The only one that might be similar is number 4 on the second slide, which is listed as parking sensors, I don't know of any 500s with front sensors though?

A/C is connected and that's a small plug. Washer is also connected, again completely different plug. It really is a mystery. I've had the front off of 29 of these cars and never seen this plug before. It's obviously something on the loom that's not in use on this car as it's bundled up and taped together.

Weird.

Weird.

If it were "from the factory" the cable would be in its final position, even if not in use, my Mazda has lots of un-used connections as they all use the same loom regardless of spec, undo the cable tie and see where its possible to get to in the direction that it leaves the main loom?

I would put money on it being a redundant sensor.

Old air con systems used to have a high and low pressure sensor which was just a switch, these days they have one pressure sensor which gives a pressure value.

I'd hazard a guess that this was a left over from an old design wiring loom and something put in the car from a parts bin.

The white piece around it is a shroud to stop it being plugged into anything.

You could be right, there is no other explanation.
