My girlfriend's 500 has been running fine today, on our 2nd trip on the way back she was pulling off the bypass and all of a sudden the stop/start warning light and engine management light and a triangle with a exclamation mark came on and the engine had very little revs and power until she stopped the car and restarted it seems ok for now.. need advice urgently what to do? Is it back to evans halshaw for a repair.. this shook up my girlfriend up..

How old is the car and mileage etc?

But it did it as was exiting the bypass at 60 mph we slowed down at a set of lights and then the stop/start and engine management and a triangle with a exclamation mark came on the engine had no power and throttle we nursed it to somewhere we stopped and we restarted the car and it seemed fine and got us home safely the car seemed normal after this.

Check your battery, Fiat Stop/ Start cars are very particular about battery voltages. If it’s the original then it will be toast by now.

There are a lot of posts in the 500 section all about this particular problem. You will need to get a dedicated Stop/Start compatible battery (do a search in the forum for recommended battery’s).

Given it entered "limp mode" have the stored codes read, I suspect the issue may return whilst the battery may be poor it's unlikely that caused the problem simple sensor failure can trip the light but more serious again sensor errors put the engine in safety mode to protect it?

we are north wales...

Evans Halshaw is saying its the coil pack, they fitted a new one before we picked it up, but that failed hence the fault we had, so that they fitted a new one yesterday and we took it on a test run and it failed in the first 5 mins back to the garage for an overnight stay where today they are going to fit a ford ka coil pack hopefully that will cure the fault once and for all, it's scaring my girlfriend just cutting out like this at the best she is a nervous driver and making her want to walk away from the car...

The Stop/start disables whenever the engine light activates so is unlikely to be part of the problem.

Check the oil as that is an easy starting point - when mine gets slightly low the engine warning comes on (and S/S turns off)

The car is still at the garage Evans halshaw, They now think the timing belt has slipped when it was done the beginning of may this year, apart from that they have no idea whats causing the fault

Finally got somewhere with them, the timing has been redone, it needs the 4 injectors replacing takes 2 days to get them and a new coil pack as well.. so we pick up a ford Ka plus courtesy car until fixed..

The 500 will be in the garage until at least Tuesday or Wednesday, not a good start to owning a 500.
Evans Halshaw where we bought the car from has done a shed load of work, the timing belt and tensioner was done at the beginning of may before we bought the car at another evans halshaw, but they notice it slipped a couple of notches, so they have now replaced them again so its now timed correctly, in the process they noticed that the injectors where faulty and they are replaceing them with magnetti marelli ones from italy hence the delay in getting the car back they did hear from another dealership that possibly where the car came from orginaly there were incidents of dirty or comtaminated fuel in the area and hence possibly the injectors have a problem, they are also going to replace the leads, spark plugs and coil pack. So, after all, them repairs hopefully the car shouldn't have any more problems...
Yes we are annoyed at them for screwing up our ownership of the 500, I will be seeking compensation for the time we haven't had the 500, might ask if they give us a bit more warranty rather than the 3 months we got with the car on purchase, full tank of fuel and see what else I can squeeze out of them...
