Hi all I’ve tried to have a look to see what can be the route cause from the forum in relation to the water in my car.

The rear drivers side footwell is soaked, you push on it and water literally squeezes up around your hand, there also appears to be some wetness in the drivers footwell but not as much as the rear and doesn’t feel like there’s anything wet under the seat (not 100% sure tho)

I read that it can be the AC pipe that’s blocked? How would I know this and would it cause the rear to be more wet?

Any help and advise appreciated. I’ve only had the car since 22nd feb 65 plate 500C - still in warranty also and I’m already hating it :-(

I’ve felt around the roof and all feels dry .

If it’s still under warranty bring it back and get it sorted, it’s what the warranty is for! Some cars do suffer from a leak via the rear bumper mounting so it could be that

Yeah she’s all booked in, if it was simple and easily sorted would rather rectify quickly. I checked all the drainage holes - no issues there (that’s prob the only simplest thing it could be,lol) lol

Took the car into fiat for the leak, said it was to do with the window not sitting probably. So rectified that, went for it’s normal valet before picking up and when I opened the door knew the problem was still their, unfortunately service centre was now closed and I still have a leak.

It appears to come out the drainage holes as the bottom of the door and then over spills over the bottom rubber seal into the car.

Any ideas!? As I’ll be booking it into fiat but already waited 3 weeks to get it in and now will have to wait again prob another time span the same length.

It’s just going to wreck the car!! I’m so angry!

I think this is the door alignment. Look at how the rubber at the top of the door sits from the outside when the door is closed. If the rubber lip is outside of the metal of the top of the door shut then water gets inside, runs down the glass and into the inside of the door. This happened to me not so long ago. I released the top hinge bolt and pushed/tilted the door ever so slightly and it moved. As soon as I undone the bolt I think it moved a bit. It was enough so that rubber fits under the top rather than over it. I’ll take a photo of where I mean later in case my description isn’t clear.

I said to fiat that it’s nothing to do with the window coming off the rail and to do with the seals but as per norm they don’t listen.

I’m not happy with 3 seals on the door around the window! One I think is what you described and another two. I’ll grab some photos and try and up load them.

If you could show me that will be a massive help

This is how it should look

If this seal is not pressed against the body, water will get in and run down the inside.

These are mine, think it’s what you have mentioned and exactly what I thought was coming in through the seals but fiat didn’t listen!!

It appears there’s 3 points the seal don’t sit flush. And the door doesn’t appear to be as flush as the passenger side. What would cause this?

One obvious cause is badly repaired accident damage, or even an opportunistic thief trying to force open a door (it has happened). Sadly neither of these would qualify for rectification under warranty.

Have you owned the car from new?

No haven’t owned it from new bought it on the 22nd feb from fiat direct, noticed the problem after a week of having it after saying to the other half it smell of wet dogs and the window popping off it’s hibge. ?

I don’t think where the triangle is would be the place as that’s just a piece of trim. To be honest the bits you show are quite a small area which I doubt would cause it. How does it look compared to the Other Side?

Put some kitchen roll, rolled up under where you think it’s getting in and spray the hose on it, or better still sit in it and get someone else to spray a hose. Might give you a better idea of how it’s getting in.

Compared to the other door, it’s not flush. I got my dad to spray it and water is getting in, I could just about see a bit of water on the inside of the car. But hard to explain, but when the door is closed you can just about see some white paint between the door card and the pillar.

I’ve put a tea towel and kitchen towel in the rear foot well along the edge from the runner of chair seat to the rear seats and it’s wet and the front foot well also gets wet. This is just with the car parked.

I have opened the door (my car is parked on a slight slip down towards the front) and water drips out of the hole closest to the hinges and you can see water pooling in the rubber seal at the bottom and water along it towards the back too. I’ll post pictures as I don’t think I can post the video of it

My dad said if you look at the door from the rear of the car to the front the top half isn’t sitting as flush either and plenty more water gets in this side than the passenger side

In that case, Fiat should fix it whatever the cause.

They don't normally fit that badly when new; I'd still be suspicious of something physically happening to the car.

There’s no damage on the door paint work and it all matches. Nothing has been registered either. Who knows :-(

I’ll be booking it back in with fiat soon as they open. Total nightmare.

Is there a ruling with second hand cars bought direct from fiat that you return the car so many times they have to give you your money back r is that with just new cars?

If you buy from a dealer, then your statutory rights are the same no matter who the dealer is. You may have additional rights under any warranty you got with the car; you'd need to read the small print carefully to find out if this applies.

At this stage, I'd focus on getting Fiat Direct to get the car put into good order.

What it takes to do that should be their problem. If they can't or won't fix it, then you should be able to get a refund of what you paid for it, less a reasonable deduction for the use you've had thus far.

The dealer should do it but it’s probably just a slight adjustment needed. Have you tried adjusting the door lock catch. You can loosen the screws and move it. That will adjust how far in the door goes before the lock engages.

Apart from that then it’s the hinge nuts that need loosening and the door can pivot back and forth and up and down.IMG_3213.JPG

Got in the car this morning after it’s been raining from the early hours and it’s soaked. I’m wondering if it’s from the drainage holes from the soft top roof somehow?

So frasutrating :-(

Okay, took the side trim off that runs along the bottom off the door and the whole of the car is full with water no lie.

Absolutely gob smacked! I’ll be making an official complaint tomorrow!! And I expect them to take the car also tomorrow!!

The other half recons it’s coming in through the front engine bay? I’m
It convinced and more like coming in from all angels

As like previously said seems too much for the door? Although it does allow water in but not to this extent

Any other ideas?
