I have a 2015 fiat 500 1.2 lounge. It has been parked for over 6 months and has done 10000 miles from new.
As it has low mileage I didn't service it and fiat have now turned their back on the warranty due to this.

My issue is that when I got in the car, there was a lot of condensation. Since then my evic display does not work. It glows orange and sometimes has a part of the display flashing up. The Speedo etc around the edge works fine.
I have checked the fuses, even took the unit out and left it in a bag of rice in case it was water ingress.
Could anyone assist in guiding me if there is anything else I could check. I read it may be a dodgy earth but I don't know where that would be; I have cleaned the earth on the battery.
Car runs fine but this is driving me crazy.
Just hoping it is not the unit.
Any help would be gratefully accepted.

Hello and welcome.

This issue has been reported several times before and unfortunately reports seem to be becoming more common. The last one was just 5 days ago. Sadly this fault generally requires the display to be replaced; the new part is not cheap and it is necessary to connect the car to diagnostics in order to install it correctly; it's not just plug and play.

A number of cars have had the display replaced whilst still under warranty; I note what you say regarding lack of servicing and can only say that Fiat are known to be harsh when it comes to enforcing the conditions of the warranty. You have little to lose by contacting Fiat Customer Services at this stage. They'll likely be well aware that this is a known issue, but I'd be surprised if they'll admit this.

It's possible to buy a secondhand display and fit it yourself. They turn up regularly on ebay for a fraction of the price of the new part. You can buy software and cables to reprogram it for around £75 or so. The important thing to know if you're considering this is that, whilst it's straightforward to adjust the mileage of the replaced unit upwards, it can't be reduced, so it's essential to buy a secondhand unit which shows less mileage than your car has already covered. On a very low mileage car, this may make sourcing a unit a little more challenging.

Another option is to send your existing display to a specialist to be repaired; you could try giving these folks a call. If you do, please come back and tell us about their response; it might help other folks facing similar issues in the future.

Many thanks for the replies. I have contacted fiat and will await their reply. Now I remember why I didn't want a fiat!

Just a quick update. Phoned fiat uk customer care team who (following a few calls) will fix the display even though I have no service history. Many thanks for your help with this.

This is great news (y).

That said, they should have fixed it without you having to go through all of this rigmarole in the first place - there's no way the failure is down to lack of servicing as this part is never routinely serviced.

But it's still good to see Fiat treating its customers fairly.

Hi guys, I'm new here but i wanted to share what I've learnt as I had a nightmare when my screen went on my dash! As you all probably know Fiat want a lot of money for a new dash and I just couldn't afford that, in the end i used a cluster repair company in Hampshire (abit of a drive but worth it!) called Cartronix. It was so much cheaper than Fiat and was done in about an hour! I'm so happy! i was worried that i couldnt get it sorted before my mot was due but its all sorted and has been working good since. Just wanted to share what I found as i found it difficult to find a solution at the time.
