Struggling to find whats up with the 500, there is no lights on the dash when you turn the ignition and turning the key further does nothing, the window, radio and blower controls are all dead. I have tested and changed any blown fuses in the engine compartment and under the passengers footwell as well as testing all the relays in the engine fuse box-the battery is fully charged at 13v. The body ecu which I assume is the one under the passeger footwell is getting power. any help greatly appreciated..

Cut your losses call a mobile auto electrician?
Other than that it will be a long tracing process not sure if immobiliser cuts all power or just won't start? Do the side lights work or horn?
Did you do anything to the car just before the issue appeared?

What about interior light ect? Any of them work
Remote locking?

Do you have ant jump leads? Try running a cable from the negative battery terminal to a sold part of the body or engine block basically make a strong earth then try again

did you log which ones have blown..?, (for reference my 13 year old almost identical car is on factory bulbs and fuses).

so you've an unusual fault..,
a failed main earth cable is not unheard of.. but generally causes niggles.. rather than total failure:chin:

see the Guides- in FAQ's at top of Grande Punto section for the basic checks.. tests

Thanks for the replies, I have checked the battery leads and main earth and all is ok-
forgot to mention the mileage and clock display turns on when you open the doors and also the interior light nothing else.

lights on the dash flashed and it struggled to start, but did got it home the next day it was dead- I thinking Body ecu is at fault?

How old is the battery? don't assume its at 13v that its OK @ 10-11 years old it must be on at least its second one and that would then be quite old, got any jump leads?

The battery is recent and works in other cars- I'm thinking its either the ignition switch or the body control module.

So.. does a basic code reader connect and read the basics.
If so try checking the masterfuses.

It sounds like a connectivity problem..
Have you got any backgroung to this.. weird occurences. Blown bulbs or fuses.?

Any recent work done or incidents..??

Checked the hatch wiring..???????? ;)

Thanks for the replies, I have tested the body and engine ground- the braided copper cable is a bit oxidized but tests ok-

The key turns and feels fine,

I have now got the dash lights working and I connected a scanner which says there are no codes-

So now all the dash lights work but the engine doesn't turning over-
all the dash lights go off when the key is turned to the start position so I will try another battery with jump leads- though normally you can't hear the starter click with a low battery.

Note it must be a Fiat specific multiscan reader not a generic OBD2 scanner, which will seem to work and say no codes.

from my experience I doubt any scan tool will find the problem when it comes to wiring issues.

I managed to bump start the car so its not an immobilizer fault-
I'll check the starter the next chance I get,
does anyone know which colour wire from the ignition switch goes to the starter?

When I had a problem with the body computer and MES said it was the throttle position sensor, but changed that, cleared the code and it came back. Change the throttle body, same again. Took it to a garage and through a process of elimination they came up with the body computer. No scanner actually scanned the correct code.
