Had the screech when starting on cold or damp days-did the usual of changing drive belt but still remained
I think the problem is what is known as a ‘lazy’ clutch. Due to cold/wet, the starter spindle, which should retract when the flywheel accelerates on ignition, is not returning fast enough and ‘screeches’ as it contacts the flywheel-like the noise it makes if you start the car when already running
Got a used starter from flea bay and fitted 3 days ago, and seems to have solved it.
Starter change a bit of a pig unless you have very high ramps!
£30 all in!
