Hi Sorry if this is a common issue or has already been asked. My Daughters car has all of a sudden started to show the Engine management light and the Start stopis not available. When this happens it only goes approx 5-10mph. If you pull in it and let it sit for 10 mins it starts fine and performance is back.

It is just over 3 years old with 10K on the clock so not a lot of miles. There was a new water pump fitted in March 2017 under warranty and they have cleaned the map sensor last weekend but it has appreaed again.

Any ideas or what i should tell them to look for.

I am using an arnold Clark Fiat garage in Ayr, Scotland.

Thank you in advance for all your help.

We have now got it booked in for a replacement map sensor and a replacement Flame Trap. Does this make any sense to anyone.

I am looking for the solution as my daugter has a Uni placement starting on Monday and she needs her car.

Thanks

hi, :)
the engine light being on is actually a GOOD thing,
as it SHOULD mean there is a stored fault code - useful for diagnosis

sometimes being little used / low miles can mean that someparts have a relatively hard life..

if they suggest a service.. get a cheaper garage to do the job.. main dealer labour rates are VERY high.. and these cars are relatively simple to work on.. ( general service items)

is it a 1.2 petrol engine..?
the diesels are more complex..:(

Hi Charlie, Thank you for the reply. It has been serviced in the last month so should be ok. It is a 1.2 Petrol.

Thanks

Just for information when the car only goes very slowly the cars brain is in "limp mode" this gets you off the road but is there to protect the engine from possible damage.
I would suggest getting your daughter road side assistance cover, some can be very cheap but have limitations like mine, £25 a year one call out only but with full onward cover, you may need more call outs but let's hope not.
Stop start always goes off in this case and many others too.

Hi did you fix this problem as my Mrs has the same issue? :worship:
