Hello,

Hope someone can help on this matter as the GF 500 Multijet is giving some head aches.

It started with an intermittent report by the GF that the red steering light on the dashboard ( just the light, not other symptoms like heavy steering).
Using the excellent Multiscan, I have scan the steering module and found an intermittent error and cleared it.

After that I have started to have other errors as per below:

Engine
Marelli 6F3 EOBD Diesel Injection
ISO Code: 68 07 98 07 E3
Errors found:
P0683 - Preheating glow plugs signal

Body
Body Computer Delphi (312)
ISO Code: 40 83 AD 86 CB
Errors found:
U0019 - B-CAN line

ABS
Bosch ABS 8 ESP
ISO Code: EC 07 85 86 D3

Electric Steering
Delphi Electric Steering
ISO Code: 31 83 8C 07 1C

The glow plus error I am aware, as I have already ordered new glow plugs, but the ones that I am really worried about is the U0019 B-CAN LINE error.

I have also need to mentioned that when I run the scan erors on all modules the board computer reported issues with the EBD / ABS but if I start the car normallly ( with no Multiscan dongle connected ) there are no errors reported on ABS / EBD???

Could I have something as sinple as a bad battery causing this issue?

Your help is much appreciated.

Best Regards,
Bruno

Most likely cause of steering warnings, especially without feeling any steering problems, is a failing battery.
The steering has a high current demand, so any weakness in the battery will often show here first. The other errors could also be due to low voltages. Electronic systems do not like low voltages, and can generate random errors as a result.
Get the battery tested.
Any doubts, get a new one.
Batteries tend to last 5-7 years on non stop/start cars, and 3-4 years for stop/start. Unless they're old before fitting, so any replacement, look for the build date code, and reject anything over 3 months old.

Hi Portland_bill, many thanks for your quick reply.

I will check the battery first and report back!

Thank you soo much!

Hello, Many thanks everyone for all their help. I have swapped the battery with a new one
-Yuasa HSB063 - better specs than one that came with the car ( 330 MAh??!!) Everything check OK, but I still have issues with the ABS as I done some test braking in a controlled environment and I cannot feel the ABS working on the pedal.

Tested the pump on Multiscanecu and the put does vibrate, which is good. Could it be wheel sensors ?
What other tests can I do ?

Many thanks for all your help

Do the wheels actually lock up and screech?

If the ABS light is on, the ABS system will not operate. It has detected a fault, so it shuts down and leaves you with normal braking only.

As you have MES, use it to check all the components of the ABS system, it should tell you if it sees a faulty wheel sensor, or any other problem.

Hello, the ABS light does not light up on the dashboard, but when you run MES, and scan DTC across modules, such as engine, body, etc, as soon as it scans the ABS mobule the dashboard displays a message saying "ABS /EBD failure - please check manual" and ABS light remains light.

Turn off the ignition and turn it on again and no issues - Confirmed braking test - ABS not working.

ABS module scan on MES reports no erros.

Many thanks

Yeah!

thanks guys, will try and check the earths.

How many earths should I have from the - terminal. Currently I have the standard quick release - terminal with 3 earths of different thickness

I have also run an ABS pump test using MES and I could hear the pump inside the card but nothing on the brake pedal.

Best Regards and thanks to everyone

It suggests that the ABS module is faulty, as any other part should be flagged by the module and the light illuminated. First check would be all the connections, especially any earth for the module. These often have their own dedicated earth wire.

Of course, it is important to ensure that when testing, conditions are such that the ABS would be expected to operate. When we used 500s with BSM as training cars it was often very difficult to get the ABS to operate, as the cars just stopped.
