Hi there,

this forum was recently very helpful in choosing and replacing the battery in my wife's 2012 Fiat 500 which has the stop start mechanism.

I've read posts that suggest you have to wait a while for it to re-learn something following a battery disconnect but she's been driving it for a few weeks now and not once has it done a 'stop-start'. There are no warning lights on the dash relating to SS.

I've read posts about a wire that might need to be reset but can't seem to find a vid or instructions. Please could anyone point me at something or tell me what to do to get it working again please?

regards,

Chris

Hi.
Is it getting enough charge to actually kill the motor and restart?

My car always did good S.S After a 2 hour motorway run.
Daily driving meant it tailed off to only the occasional function of S.S

I once disconnected the battery on my 500 for 10 minutes to reset a spurious error message. The s/s worked normally afterwards.

yup its a brand new battery. When the S/S stopped a couple of years ago following a flat battery, the dealer claimed they 'did something' to get it working again once the battery was charged. Wish I had the details but I can't recall what they told her.

Hi. Ok . with a good battery(in a good state of charge)

Others have had success by removing the battery power from the ECU/ BODY COMPUTER...simplest method is to slacken the NEGATIVE battery lead / cable at its connection to the battery.
Disconnect it
Overnight..or even for an hour ;)

The short term 'learnt memory' should clear..relying on the original factory presets within the cars 'BRAIN' To then do the work

The Stop/Start then takes the NEW voltage reading as its base setting..so service could be restored.

Good luck..and let us know what you find.

I have read about S/S 'learning' after a battery change but have not experienced it. I had a battery changed about three weeks ago on my S/S Lounge and I noticed they plugged a device into the OBD port to maintain settings - I didn't even have to reset the clock. The S/S worked normally on the drive home.

Since the system presumably would have noticed no change what might this imply for operation of the S/S with a new battery?

Thanks everyone. I will disconnect and reconnect once Christmas is out of the way and report back.
