When I had my panda I wired the tow bar electrics in to the lights at the rear and had no problems ,now I've recently purchased a 500s diesel with more power than my old diesel although now I will only be able to tow 800kilos instead of the pandas 900kilos . Now I was going to local towbar firm for supply and fit because of all this talk of canbus but it turns out they only use a relay anyway which is some thing I can cope with. Any one on the forum fitted one ?

I had one on one of my recent cars. 1.2 petrol. I took the actual tow bar off but couldn’t get the bolts undone on the bit underneath so I just turned the mounting round so it couldn’t be seen. Shame coz I would have given it to you for free if I had managed to get it off. It seems wires were ran all the way to the front for power for some reason. I saw them under the trim when I replaced the seatbelts.

I've got the tow bar on anyone know what colour does what at the light clusters to save me time. Thanks

Canbus vehicles require a little fag packet sized box to work the towbar electrics. The box has an earth and a 12v fused feed. The lights of the car feed into the box and the tow bar wiring feeds out. It acts like a relay and takes the power for the tow bar lights from the 12v feed. Dead easy to sort and you can run a 12v feed fron the fuse box in the car under the carpet to the rear. Crack on!
