I'm replacing a broken door handle on the passenger side, and I can't release the rod from the little black plastic brace on the handle lock mechanism. Is it really a case of brute force or is there a technique I'm missing here?

Would really appreciate any tips as I've been struggling with this for far too long :)

Thanks!

Is this the part you mean, it has a clip that has to be rotated to allow the rod to release? IMG_4795.JPG

Yes it looks like that part!

Many thanks for the replies everyone, I managed to get it off both the bottom clip and the handle mechanism with a lot of twisting and yanking - I'm not sure how.. :worship:
Sorry to anyone who might ever have the same issue, no advice for you apart from perseverance.

Hopefully I never have to do this again.

Now to manoeuvre the new handle in with my frozen fingers.
