2010 Fiat 500 Lounge 1.2 .
Noticed rainwater ingress into the drivers side footwell carpet. (Irish Car so RHD). I have stripped back the insulation and the carpet and have methodically powerhosed down the car one area at a time to narrow down where the rainwater ingress is coming from.
It is not windscreen or scuttle related. The rainwater ingress occurs when the water is sprayed onto the roof around the sunroof area. The 500 doesnt have drain tubes from the sunroof and instead relies on a profiled channel in the roof to carry it away. In heavy downpour conditions or powerwashing there can be a slight buildup in rainwater around the sunroof that spills out over the door - perfectly normal for downpour conditions.
However the last few months in thes conditions i have found the drivers side floor getting wet. When i stripped back the carpets the insulation i pinpointed the location it was coming out to what i will call under the step into the car, where the wiring runs hidden under a plastic profile. The water must be making its way down inside the roof to the door channel and then down to the floor and coming out under the step into the car, then the floor insulation soaks it up and spreads it. Its a relatively large amount of water getting in now.
Can anybody offer any advice on how to proceed. Honestly part of me just wants to drill a small hole in this area and let the water pour out, but thats just a work around really.
Anybody any ideas on how to proceed on this ? Is taking off the sunroof to pinpoint the location of ingress possible ?
I have the car 3 years and this is a recent issue so i would imagine maybe a rubber is perished or similar. Any help or advice appreciated.
