not sure how people are doing anything on this car with the free version as all the features arnt available with the free one and need the registered version

cant even get basic things such as info about millage dpf status ect as its all on supported modules

and who goes to the main dealers very often?

People that need diagnostics done, but don't have the registered version of MES possibly?

If you add your location to your forum profile, other members with the registered version may offer to help you.

What problem are you trying to diagnose?
.

Personally I think 50 euros (£45) for MES is a bargain. A single diagnostic at a main dealer can be £50-75. If you do your own maintenence MES is invaluable. I you know it works just wait until you need to use it before registering and paying the fee. Many makes or car do not have anything like MES available at the cost. For example the cheapest "lite" version of VAG-COM for VW-Audi cars is $99 and the enthusiast version is $200-$300.

it may be buy i have never had to visit a main dealer for diagnostics for any car ive ever owned

Any modern car will have had diagnostics run on it routinely as part of main dealer servicing. Many cannot be properly serviced without model specific service / diagnostic software. For example DPF equipped Fiats. If you took a modern car for a service or to have a fault investigated they will have plugged in a computer even if you did not specifically ask them to. It's so routine that they may not have even mentioned doing it.
If you have never had to take a modern car in to a garage with a fault you are very lucky.

can you come and mow my lawn and clean my van. or is it just other people you expect to work for free?

£50 is a lot just to check the status on top of the cost of buying the cables and adapters -another 20-30

Well I have in the past because it has been the ONLY way to resolve an issue. Today's Fiat 500 as an example, isn't like a Vauxhall Chevette from the 1970's that had absolutely no diagnostics at all. It like most 'modern' cars these days, is a complex bit of kit and they go wrong and sometimes owners cannot sort stuff out for themselves. Dealerships are often for many people, the only way to resolve an issue. Expensive, yes, sometimes, but I've had a free diagnostic session from a local Fiat dealership which ultimately saved me £1k when the steering motor was replaced under warranty.

And with great respect to you, but you must realise that people do have to sit down and create software? Why would you expect something for next to nothing or free that developers have put in a great deal of work/time/effort into? The software developers aren't charities. Their work has to get some pay back and they have to make a living. That's the way of the world.

Another forum member has already hinted at a way that you might be helped out, by you updating your profile to give an idea of where you are located. (y)

nothing in particular just general status check monitoring ect and for checking fault codes if i ever get any

My free version worked fine on pre 2010 cars..

But of course.. youve got a vehicle worth spending that little bit more on?
Example: sounds like its got a DPF.. no garage is going to PROPERLY reset ALL of the necessary parameters at oil change time for less than €50.

Choice is yours really.

It just so happens, that when I wanted a copy of MES, I found it only came in a format for a PC.
We're fully AppleMac in this household and have been for almost always, so not only did I need to buy the OBD connector cables and the registered copy of MES, I also needed to buy a damned PC laptop.
Good job I could find an old one secondhand for £50.

The program works fine, but trying to get my head round the workings of a PC does my head in.

Now that we have sold our Fiat500TA and our daughter has sold hers too, I have a redundant laptop PC complete with a redundant set of OBD cables and a redundant copy of MES.

Any takers?

Mick.

Well Mick, the MultiEcuScan website says: "The License may not be transferred to another person or company." So I guess that you are not even allowed to sell it to your evil twin brother...

Bus seriously, it's a great tool, but I don't like that you get only one year of free updates for €50. Three years of free updates would be much better. When I bought my license, it lasted more than a year before the TA was fully supported. Fortunately I have a lifetime license though.

who talking about having everything free?
all i said it would be nice to at least connect to the car with the free version

now if i knew of the such hostile reception i wouldn't of posted

What car do you have? The functions provided in the unregistered version vary from model to model but you should be able to connect and read the CAN bus information on most models (500X is one exception).

Sorry you felt the reception was hostile, but your first post did come across as a bit negative and confrontational.

I too feel disappointed that you feel that you've had a hostile reception, however, please let me assure you that no member here on the forum had that intention, but as g8rpi has said, your posts came across as negative from the start.

This forum is a great source of help to many and there are some extremely knowledgeable members on here who actually want to help you, but you have to give us something to work with. If you indicate which part of the country you are in, someone in your area might be able to help you out.

Give us a little more information about your car. How long have you owned it? How many miles has it done? What sort of service history does it have?

The problem with armchair diagnostics is, we don't have access to your car therefore we can only give pointers on what you tell us. You need to connect the car up to fully functioning diagnostics. If that means you have to pay for it, then that is the only way it's going to work, and it's coming across as obvious that you don't want to pay for someone to diagnose the issue. Therefore, whilst I admire your obvious reluctance to visit a dealership and get the problem diagnosed in probably less than half an hour, you could find yourself chasing yourself down a rabbit hole for a considerable period of time.

..... I do NOT have any problem
I am not trying fix anything
I am not trying to diagnose anything
I was only trying to connect for general curiosity to see basic status ect information

If there' was a problem that was hard to diagnose I may be convinced to pay
But just for a general nosy it's not worth £50 to me
