Hi,

My exhaust guy has pointed out that the turbo actuator is rattling at idle, and thinks there's a lot of play in it.

He also thinks that it could possibly be the way these cars are.

Otherwise, the car runs fine, with no fault codes. (Apart from a lumpy idle)

The car's 2011, low mileage, and in good nick.

Any experience with these turbos, anyone?

Adjust? Replace?

Would replacement be a DIY bolt on job?

I bought my Twinair powered Lounge in 2011. When I put it in for its first service in 2012, the garage carried out a "Service Campaign" which involved replacing the turbo. They explained that with a particular batch of cars, the actuator for the waste gate could detach, causing loss of power.
Yours is about the right age to have needed this turbo change, are you able to determine if it has been done? They stamped the appropriate page in the service book, worth having a look in yours. I changed my car earlier this year, so I'm afraid I can't check whether there was a reference number for the work.
Probably worth a visit to your nearest Fiat dealer, they may be able to help. I've no idea whether Fiat will sanction a free turbo replacement after such a long time.
