Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing an issue with the UConnect 7" display on my 500 Lounge. On a couple of occasions, when staring the car, the radio turns on, but the display remains off and won't respond to any touch or action to it...

I tried switching off the radio - while driving - and switching it on again, but the screen remains off. Only by turning off the car, and restarting it after a few minutes, the display goes back to normal.

Has anyone else experienced this glitch? If so, do you know how to fix it (beside turning the car off and on again)?

Thanks,

Val

My wife has had a MY 2017 500 Lounge since the end of March. A couple of months ago she received a letter about a recall to install a software update on the UConnect 7" radio that she has.
After having this update installed by the dealer, she has had the issue you describe a handful of times and it is very frustrating. Particularly because a reboot by switching off the engine and then back on again doesn't seem to cure it immediately.
I couldn't find any software version number on the head unit, but one change I did notice was that the white icon displayed at the top right corner when you're phone is connected with the UConnect app has changed from being a phone icon to a WiFi type signal icon. Maybe this will help identify if we're running the same version of software and there's a bug in it?
There is 1 pending map update I need to install on it, but I can't see this affecting the base software running on the head unit. We're probably going to have to contact the dealer or hope there's another software update by the time it needs a service. :(

Hello MajorTomUK,

I am terribly sorry for replying to you so late!... I haven't been on the forum in months and seen your post only now.

I haven't had the issue anymore, but I think it has more to do with me driving the car once a week, than the issue having disappeared.

We'll see how it goes!

Cheers

Had the same issue which was solved by a firmware update issued by FIAT in September.
Latest version is 22.00.63.01.

Thanks for your replies. I've actually just taken the car to the dealer today for them to take a look after finally getting it booked in. The software update sounds promising, so hopefully that'll get applied and sort it.
I'll let you know how I get on.

Dealer just rang. They have said that it needs a new radio! They've ordered it and said it'll probably be ready in the new year now. Asked if I could upgrade the CarPlay/Android Auto version (due to TomTom/Uconnect being junk) and told no. (n)
Oh well, I will post back on here when the new one has been fitted.

my march 2017 500 did this the other day, turning the radio on an off seemed to restore things - I only got the car at the beginning of this month, so would have assumed any firmware update would have been done by the dealer prior to my purchase (maybe I am expecting too much)

the radio is pretty poor (struggles to hold on to bbc, and DAB pretty much useless) so I need to get the dealer to check out the ariel etc;, I will ask about the firmware at the same time

The issue is common unfortunately. You don’t need a new head unit, you need a software update to sort the temperature sensor in it.

My wife has had another letter through about another recall:
6177 FIAT 500 - VP2 RADIO SOFTWARE UPGRADE

Will get this done at the service in March. It hasn't had the issue for ages now which is strange. I assume related to the temperature sensor software issue you refer to.

Though my 7" radio is newer than this thread, it had a sudden switch off yesterday. Needed to re-start the car to get it back to work. 1st time since I have the car, so I will keep watching.

Re the above question on DAB reception: this (radio + whatever antenna is installed) is the best DAB I have ever had. Nearly no issues even on long motorway drives where all others have regular dropouts. I am super happy with the whole unit, including the UI and navigation. :worship:

Though neither of the above just recently our basic radio came up with enter code for the first time ever, a week later the battery died within 3 min driving, so if its 4+ years old, keep an eye on it, that said ours gave absolutely no indication of failure until total failure?

My wife told me it happened to her a few times, too.
SW should be new -it is a Dec 2018 car.
Does anyone know where that temp sensor is?
To me it happened at around 15C, so should definitely not be a heat or cold problem...
